Bombers Move into Fifth Place in Northwest
November 4, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release
The Dayton Bombers Professional Hockey Team recorded four out of a possible six standings points (1-0-2) in a weekend three games-in-three nights sequence against East Coast Hockey League opponents. The Dayton Bombers are now 2-0-2 in their last four games and are in sole possession of fifth place (3-6-2-8 PTS) in the Northwest Division through Sunday's play. The Bombers will continue a stretch of five straight road games with contests against Reading and Atlantic City on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Below is a recap of this past week's games:
11/1/02- Peoria 3 @ BOMBERS 2 (OT)
Despite a strong showing by goaltender Andrew Allen (28 saves), the Peoria Rivermen defeated the Bombers 3-2 in overtime using the comeback route. Tom Nemeth's first goal of the season, a power play marker at 15:58 of the third period, put the Bombers ahead 2-1. However, a late power play opportunity for the Peoria Rivermen led to a score by Jason Lawmaster with 43 seconds remaining in regulation. Just thirty seconds into overtime, Scott Crawford beat Allen to give the Rivermen the win. Chris M. Thompson gave the Bombers a 1-0 lead 8:01 into the second period, but Tyler Rennette helped Peoria tie the game 7:05 into the third. The Bombers finished 2 for 9 on the power play while earning a standings point.
11/2/02- BOMBERS 3 @ Johnstown 4 (SO)
In the skills competition known as the ECHL shootout, the Chiefs outscored the Bombers 2-1 to win the game by a 4-3 score. Down 1-0, the Bombers scored three times in the second period to take a 3-1 lead. Torrey DiRoberto tallied just thirty seconds into the second period to tie the score, then Andrew Williamson notched a pair of power play goals at 7:49 and 12:51. Johnstown battled back in the third to force the 4-on-4 overtime with a goal by Pierre-Luc Courchesne at 2:54 and a conversion by Philippe Roy with three minutes to play in regulation. Vladimir Nemec also connected for Johnstown. The Bombers finished 2 for 3 with the man advantage and were a perfect 3 for 3 on penalty kills. Shane Bendera made 30 saves for the Bombers, while Chris M. Thompson finished with two assists as the Bombers notched another standings point.
11/3/02- Wheeling 2 @ BOMBERS 3 (OT)
After surrendering third period leads the previous two nights, the Dayton Bombers turned the tables against the Nailers. Trailing by one and with goalie Andrew Allen pulled for an extra attacker, the Bombers' Jamie Ling found Torrey DiRoberto with a perfect pass. The Bombers' winger beat goalie Mike Valley to lift the Bombers to a 2-2 tie. In overtime, Ryan Vince deflected Mike Vellinga's point shot past Valley at 3:57 to vault the Bombers to their first overtime triumph of 2002-2003. Matt Dzieduszycki had a goal and an assist for the Bombers, while Andrew Allen recorded his first win with a 24-save performance. Michel Ouellet and Zenon Kenopka scored for Wheeling.
