Machesney Returns to Rays

South Carolina Stingrays News Release


NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays and head coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced today that goalie Daren Machesney has been reassigned by the Washington Capitals from the Hershey Bears back to South Carolina.

Machesney, 20, played in ten games with the Bears finishing 3-3-1 with a 3.18 goals-against average and a .887 save percentage. The Lambeth, Ontario native dressed for the Washington Capitals of the NHL in two games as back-up goaltender to Olaf Kolzig. The rookie goaltender was a fifth round draft pick (143rd overall) of Washington in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and is under NHL contract to the Capitals.

Prior to his call-up, the 6', 185-pound goalie played seven games with the Stingrays with a 2-5-0 record, a 3.24 goals-against average and a .878 save percentage.

In a separate transaction, defenseman Tim Judy has been signed to a standard player's contract. The 5'10", 175-pound native of Bowie, MD has played four games with the Stingrays this season recording one point on an assist.

Come out tonight for Pink in the Rink as the Stingrays take on the Charlotte Checkers at 7:05 p.m. All the players will be wearing specially-designed limited edition pink jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game in a silent auction with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

It's also Ladies Night tonight. Barry's Jewelers is providing a "diamond" for the first 1,000 women through the door, but only one of them is real. You must visit Barry to find out if you were the lucky one to win the real diamond. A bridal show, sponsored by Carlson Wagonlit, will be open from 5:30 until the end of the game in the North Meeting Room and a vendor village will be located on the concourse. The vendor village will feature area non-profit and retail organizations with a focus on women's interests.
