Younger Talbot gets AHL nod
February 16, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
PHOENIX - Forward Julian Talbot became the second Ace in as many days to be called up to the American Hockey League when Alaska loaned the ECHL all-star rookie to the Providence Bruins Thursday.
Talbot plays under an ECHL contract and therefore can be loaned to any AHL team, although he attended training camp with the Aces affiliate in Peoria. Talbot's teammate and fellow ECHL all-star, Kevin Croxton, is on a two-way AHL/ECHL contract with the Rivermen and was re-called Wednesday. Talbot scored a goal for the National Conference in a 6-3 loss January 17 at the ECHL All-Star Game and, most recently, scored twice in a pair of Alaska wins over Phoenix (tomorrow night's opponent for the Aces) in Anchorage last weekend.
The 21-year-old younger brother of Joe (an assistant captain in his fourth year with Alaska), Julian Talbot currently leads all first-year players in the ECHL with a +22 rating and ranks third in points (40), tied for fourth in assists (24), and sixth in goals (16). Joe Talbot also has ties with Providence, having attended training camp with the Bruins in 2003 prior to his first year with the Aces. Julian joins second-place Providence at a busy time for the Bruins, with a Friday home date against the Springfield Falcons followed by a home-and-home with the Hartford Wolf Pack Saturday and Sunday.
Alaska (35-13-2) looks to rebound tomorrow in Phoenix after Wednesday's 4-2 loss at Las Vegas. The Aces open a three-game set with the RoadRunners tomorrow and Saturday at 5:11 p.m. AST, with live coverage beginning at 4:50 p.m. on the flagship home of Alaska Aces hockey, KFQD 750 AM. The Aces swept Phoenix last weekend in Anchorage by a combined score of 17-4 and have lost just once in 10 meetings with the 'Runners over two seasons. The teams finish up their series Tuesday, February 20, at 5:11 p.m. AST.
