'Blades open road trip with 3-1 win over Augusta

AUGUSTA, GA -The Florida Everblades (30-15-2) became the first American Conference team to hit the 30 win mark with the help of two Adam Taylor goals and 36 saves by goaltender Craig Kowalski, as the 'Blades posted a 3-1 win over the Augusta Lynx's (28-21-2) on Saturday night at James Brown Arena in front of a crowd of a noisy crowd of 2,803. The win was Florida's fourth out of four games vs. Augusta this season.

After a scoreless first period, the Everblades exploded for three second period goals. Taylor opened the scoring by sliding a rebound past Augusta net minder Dave McKee just 1:57 into the frame. Brad Parsons and Vince Bellissimo collected the assists on Taylor's 11th goal of the season. Just minutes later Bellissimo tallied his 14th goal of the year by jamming a loose puck past McKee from the left post at 4:49. Ryan Van Buskirk picked up the first assist and Parsons collected the second. Just over eight minutes later Taylor picked up his second goal of the night by firing a laser into the upper left corner of the net from the right boards to open a 3-0 lead at 13:01 of the middle period. Parsons and Bellissimo again earned the assists.

Carrying a three-goal lead into the third period, the Everblades kept the pressure on, out shooting Augusta 15-9 in the final frame. The lone goal in the period however came off the stick of Shane Hynes of the Lynx who collected a rebound a slid it past Kowalski at 5:58 of the final frame. Brian Passmore and Sean Blanchard assisted on the power play tally.

Kowalski did the rest, turning away the rest of the shots he faced in the third period to pick up the win, his fourth against Augusta this season, and increase his record to 17-8-1. McKee suffered the loss allowing the three goals on 36 shots and saw his record drop to 21-10-1.

On the power play, the Everblades finished off the night 0-for-5, while the Lynx closed out the night 1-for-6.
