Fresno Falcons News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Fresno Falcons lost the second game of their three game series at The E Center on Friday night as the Utah Grizzles came away with a 5-1 win.
Utah took a 1-0 lead just 2:06 into the opening period as Luciano Aquino gathered in a rebound at the top of the crease and slid a shot past Falcons' goaltender Ryan MacDonald. The Grizzlies doubled their lead at 16:08 as Bill Kinkel's centering feed from the corner hit off of John Morlang's skate and rolled past MacDonald.
Fresno pulled within one 9:28 into the second period. John Morlang gathered in a loose puck in the left-wing circle of the Utah zone and beat Rob McVicar with a shot off of his backhand for his team-leading 18th goal of the season.
But, Utah regained its two-goal lead, scoring a power-play goal with just two seconds remaining in the second period. Brad Herauf fanned on a shot at the top of the crease, but the puck rolled to the hash marks, and Aquino was able to stuff a shot past MacDonald for his second goal of the night.
The Grizzles extended their lead to 4-1 2:09 into the final period. Danny Stewart took a pass from Joel Irving at the hash marks, and beat MacDonald over the left shoulder for his 10th goal of the season.
Aquino capped his hat trick at 12:05 of the third period, taking a cross-crease pass from Irving, and flipping a shot past MacDonald from the near post.
Fresno out-shot Utah 40-30, as McVicar finished the night with 39 saves to record his 17th win of the season.
The Falcons were scoreless on eight power-play opportunities in the game, and are now just 1-for-46 on the man advantage in their last seven road games.
