Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release

It was a night of firsts for the Pensacola Ice Pilots.

Jesse Baraniuk scored his first goal in the ECHL in overtime to lift the Ice Pilots to a 5-4 victory over the Texas Wildcatters at Ford Arena on Friday night.

Baraniuk also had two assists in the game and played outstanding. His overtime goal was set up by newcomer Torry Guyda who had a goal earlier in the contest. The win snapped a three game losing streak by Pensacola and was their first victory in Texas this season.

The Ice Pilots spoiled a comeback by the Texas Wildcatters in the third period as they scored a goal to open the frame and a power play goal to close and erase a 4-2 deficit.

The Ice Pilots improved their record to 15-32-1-1 or 32 points, and 7-19-0-0 on the road.

In the opening period ice pilots trailed 1-0 early when Texas scored four minutes into the game.

After no success on two straight power play, the Ice Pilots tied the game when Torry Gajda scored in his first game with his new team unassisted when Texas poorly cleared the puck from their own end.

It was a big second period for the Pensacola Ice Pilots as they scored three times. John Hecimovic started the scoring with two goals, eight minutes apart to break a 1-1 tie and make it 3-1. After Texas pulled to within a goal on the power play, the Ice Pilots restored a two goal lead when Rich Meloche scored his first goal as a professional from Dan Sullivan.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon and also Sunday both at 2:05 pm at Ford Arena.
