Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif - What do you get when you mix Condors players, karaoke and more than 550 rabid fans at Buck Owens Crystal Palace? You get $23,489 in proceeds for the Kern County Shrine Club at the 8th Annual Tip-A-Condor charity dinner Tuesday Feb. 13. This year's event featured singing and dancing as well as live and silent auctions and raised 40% more than last year's.

Tip-A-Condor was sponsored by 107.9 KUZZ and gave Condors players the chance to trade in their skates for aprons and serve guests to collect 'tips' for charity. The event was highlighted by live and silent auctions for various merchandise items. The most popular among the items was a vacation package to Utah that sold for $4,000 and an authentic Paul Rosebush jersey for $2,300.

"Tip-A-Condor is definitely one of the coolest events we put on," said Condors player Josh Liebenow. "I got tipped by fans to show off my singing skills and serve food. What a painless (as opposed to getting hit on the ice) and fun way to get money for a great cause."

Other highlights from the night included Condors players Brett Lutes and Danny Taylor in a dance-off for a $300 'tip' and head coach Marty Raymond, Assistant coach Mark Pederson and Director of Hockey Operations, Bob Bartlett given a $200 'tip' to sing "I'm Too Sexy."

"The event exceeded all expectations," said Kern County Shrine Club member Clint Bear. "We would like to express our appreciation to the attendees and participants for their continued support of the Shrine Hospitals and the local Kern County Shrine Club. The entertainment was outstanding and enjoyed by all. I'll bet we will see all who attended again at next year's event."

The Shrine Club has been in operation for more than 50 years and raises money through charitable events to help improve Shriner's hospitals throughout the U.S. In the past six seasons, Tip-A-Condor has raised $77,986 for local non-profit agencies.

The Condors face-off against the Long Beach Ice Dogs in a two game homestand tonight and Saturday, Feb. 17. Tonight, KERI 1180 am and Island Style present Christian recording artist ever stays red, who will perform inside the arena during the 2nd intermission and after the game. PLUS, your favorite VeggieTales, Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber, will be at The Nest to meet fans and pose for photos.

Starting at 11 p.m. Friday night and rolling through Saturday, Bright House Networks, KUZZ 107.9 and Grand Island Pools present The Third Annual Fighting Cancer Hockey-Thon. In its first two years, the Hockey- Thon raised nearly $44,000 for "Links for Life," a breast cancer resource center serving Kern County.

The Hockey-Thon Celebrity Game will take place at 5 p.m. at Rabobank Arena prior to the Condors home game at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The Celebrity Game will include former Condors and Fog players Paul Rosebush, Glen Mears, Quinn Fair, Jamie Cooke, Brian McCarthy, Al Murphy, Kevin Barrett, Paul Willett, and Scott Hay! Doors open at 4:45 p.m. and fans receive free admission with their Condors game ticket! Celebrity Game participants Quinn Fair, Paul Rosebush, Glen Mears and Jamie Cooke's jerseys will be auctioned off during the intermissions of the Condors game that night.
