Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Bombers snapped their two game losing streak with a enthralling come from behind 5-2 victory over the Reading Royals at the EJ Nutter Center on Friday night.

Reading jumped out to an early lead on the road when leading scorer and All Star Greg Hogeboom snuck one in over the shoulder of Bombers starter Adam Berkhoel to make it 1-0 at the 3:28 mark of the first period. The Royals held onto the lead and held the Bombers to no shots on goal for the first seven minutes, but the Bombers got the offense going late. After the Royals added to their lead at the 14:06 mark on a power play goal by defenseman Rob LaLonde, the Bombers started firing shots left and right at Royals starter Yutaka Fukufuji.

The aggressive attack would pay off but the Bombers cut the lead to one on a very soft goal off a simple shot of the stick of Captain Greg Labenski. Fukufuji went to catch the puck, missed and soon enough the lead was cut to 2-1 at the 17:54 mark of the first.

It didn't take long for the Bombers to tie the game as Joe Cullen crashed the net and jumped on a rebound to make it 2-2 at the 2:40 mark of the second period. Less than four minutes later the Bombers took their first lead of the night. Brent Walton gave the Bombers a 3-2 advantage by finishing off a wraparound attempt by Dmitri Chernykh at the 5:50 mark of the second. The Bombers were relentless with the pressure they put on the Royals during the entire period, out shooting them 20-5 in the second. That constant attack allowed the Bombers to take a one goal lead to the locker room after 40 minutes of play.

The Bombers began the third period on the power play and capitalized on their fifth man advantage of the night to increase their lead. Trevor Frischmon finished off a great play from Matt Herneisen and Yannick Tifu to make it 4-2 at the 1:23 mark of the third. With the assist, Tifu extended his points streak to nine games. After going up by two goals, the Bombers shut down the neutral zone and did not allow Reading very many chances at all to get back in the game. Justin Maiser added an empty net goal at the 19:50 mark to put a cap on the Bombers 5-2 home win.

The Bombers are now 23-16-4 on the season, improving to 11-7-2 at home and 12-9-2 on the road. They will take on the Royals again on Saturday, February 17, at 8:00 p.m. but the game will be played at historic Hobart Arena in Troy, Ohio due to ESPN's coverage of the Wright State Men's basketball game.

Bombers rookie defenseman Trevor Hendrikx will be appearing locally at the Tim Horton's located on Dorothy Lane at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday February 18, to help raise money for the Red Cross fundraiser that will benefit 30 families who lost their homes earlier this week due to a tragic fire that occurred in the same complex the Bombers are housed in at Stonebridge Apartments.
