Phoenix RoadRunners News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Chanse Fitzpatrick netted the equalizer with less than five minutes remaining in regulation and then sealed the win in the fourth round of the shootout to lift the Phoenix RoadRunners to a 2-1 shootout victory over the Alaska Aces before a crowd of 5,567 at US Airways Center in ECHL action Friday.

Following a scoreless first twenty minutes, the Aces (35-13-3) broke the ice and took a 1-0 lead late in the middle period. Kimbi Daniels' push to the net deflected off of Joe Talbot's skate and trickled past RoadRunners goaltender Mike Morrison at 17:42.

It appeared as if that would be enough until Fitzpatrick beat Alaska goalie Isaac Reichmuth over the blocker with a slap shot from the top of the right-wing circle at 15:51 of the third period to tie the game at 1-1.

After a scoreless overtime in which both teams enjoyed power plays, Justin Aikins and Fitzpatrick scored in the first and fourth rounds of the shootout respectively, and Morrison stopped all four Alaska shooters to preserve the win.

Alaska out-shot Phoenix 42-33. Morrison made 41 saves to improve to 9-6-2 on the season. The RoadRunners (23-22-4) went 0-6 on the power play while Alaska was 0-5 with the man-advantage.

Notes: The RoadRunners victory was just their second lifetime against Alaska and their first since Jan. 10, 2006, also at US Airways Center...Phoenix snapped a season-long six-game winless streak...Morrison's 41 saves were six short of a season-high and the shootout win was his first of the year after two previous losses.

Phoenix returns to US Airways Center at 7:11 p.m. Saturday as they host the Alaska Aces in the second game of a two-game set. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. It's the second half of a "Hockey Doubleheader Saturday" as the Arizona State Sun Devils host the Colorado State Rams at 2:00 p.m.

Individual game ticket for the 2006-07 regular season start as low $7 in the lower section and can be purchased at the US Airways Center Box Office and at all Ticketmaster outlets including Ticketmaster.com.
