Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets took 2 wins and 4 points out of 3 road games over the weekend to enter week 3 of the 2002-03 campaign. Fort Wayne's 2-2-0 record is good for 3rd place in the Eastern Conference behind Port Huron and Flint after 4 games played.

Friday night, Oct. 18, the Komets started the eastern road tour with a 2-1 victory at Elmira. The Komets earned goals from Ryan Severson and Michel Massie (pp, gw) as rookie Scott Rideout allowed only 1 goal on 33 shots for his first pro win in his first pro start. Komet penalty killers stopped all 13 Elmira advantages in the game to preserve the win.

Saturday the Komets traveled to Adirondack and clipped the IceHawks 2-1. Kevin Bertram and Jason Selleke scored for the Komets and Tom Lawson made his first Komet appearance in goal making 25 saves on 26 shots for the win.

Sunday the Komets finished the weekend road tour at Port Huron with a 5-2 loss to the new Beacons. Colin Chaulk netted his first goal of the season and Selleke notched his 2nd goal of the weekend. Rideout faced 21 shots making 16 saves in his 2nd start of the year.

The Komets outshot opponents in the 3 games 117-80. Komet specialty teams were called on 48 times stopping 22 of 23 man advantages and scoring twice on 25 power play opportunities.

Milestones.....coach Greg Puhalski coached his 300th UHL regular season game at Port Huron Sunday 10/20.

Milestones ahead.....skater David-Alexandre Beauregard has appeared in 198 regular season UHL games.

First things first.....Goaltender Scott Rideout appeared in his first pro start and registered his first pro win Friday 10/18 at Elmira. It was also the Komet's first win of the season. Rideout also registered his first pro loss Sunday 10/20 at Port Huron. Defenseman Michel Lanthier notched his first pro point (assist) and goalie Tom Lawson made his debut as a Komet and earned his first Fort Wayne win at Adirondack Saturday 10/19. Defenseman Bart Stevens registered his first pro point (assist) and skater Kevin Kotyluk appeared in his first pro game getting his first career minor penalty Sunday 10/20 at Port Huron. The Komet's 2-1 victory at Adirondack Saturday 10/19 was their first ever win at Adirondack (only played there once before, almost 2 years ago to the day on Oct. 21, 2000, 6-3 loss).

Komets add Stewart, Kotyluk to roster.....Oct. 17 the Komets announced that skaters Bobby Stewart and Kevin Kotyluk were added to the roster. This season is Stewart's 5th pro year after finishing his best career season ever. Last year the 5-foot, 9-inch center skated all 72 regular season games with the Idaho Steelheads of the WCHL. He scored a team high 39 goals, 51 assists and 90 points in leading Idaho to the WCHL's regular season championship. In the playoffs, Stewart guided the Steelheads to the WCHL finals with 9 goals including 5 power play tallies. He also led the team with 16 points in 15 post-season games. Kotyluk was chosen by the Komets in the 5th round of the UHL's North American Amateur Draft last March. Last season Kotyluk led the University of Massachusetts-Lowell with 58 penalty minutes while netting 2 goals and 10 points.

6 pack on the road to go.....the Komets have 6 of 10 road games remaining before the much-anticipated Fort Wayne home opener Nov. 9 at the new Memorial Coliseum. The Komets will host the Quad City Mallards home opening night at 7:35pm. Single game tickets are on sale at the Coliseum Ticket Office and online at www.ticketmaster.com. Marathon/Komets Fill Up Cards are back.....once again this year, the Komets have teamed with Marathon to offer fans a chance to get gas at Marathon for a free Komet ticket offer. 3 fill-ups stamped on a Marathon/Komet Fill Up card gets customers a "Buy One, Get One Free" ticket offer good on select Marathon nights at Komet home games all season long. The first Marathon Night of the season is Friday, Nov. 15 when the Komets host Adirondack at 7:35pm. Fill Up cards can be redeemed at the Coliseum Ticket Office.
