One Up and Three Down For Royals

Reading Royals News Release


The Royals started the week on a high note winning 5-3 at home against Greensboro Wednesday night. Reading tied a franchise mark with four power play goals out of five attempts against Greensboro. The Royals didn't fair as well on the weekend losing to Trenton twice and Atlantic City. All four games last week were big divisional games for the Royals. This week the Royals will again play four games, three of those on the road. Wednesday, the Royals travel to Atlantic City to battle the Bullies. Friday, Reading will be in Greensboro returning on Saturday to take on Trenton at home before finishing up in Wilkes Barre/ Scranton to battle the Wheeling Nailers on Sunday.

Wednesday, October 23 @ Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall 7:05PM

GAME NOTES: The Royals meet the Bullies for the second time this season. Atlantic City knocked off Reading 3-2 in the Sovereign Center last Saturday. This is the second meeting of nine this season for these two Northeast Division combatants. Defenseman Jim Dube picked up his first goal of the season for Reading in the first meeting.

Friday, October 25 @ Greensboro 7:30PM

GAME NOTES: The Royals and Generals meet for the second time this season. Reading beat Greensboro at home last week 5-3. Royals netminder Jeff Sanger picked up his first professional win in net. Six Royals posted multiple point efforts in the win including two goals by Simon Tremblay and Dan Riva.

Saturday, October 26 vs. Trenton Sovereign Center 7:05PM

GAME NOTES: Reading and Trenton have already met three times this season. The Titans are a perfect 3-0-0 against the Royals winning twice at home and once on the road. David St. Germain has been the winning goaltender for Trenton in all three games. The Royals overall record versus Trenton is 2-10-1.

Sunday, October 27 @ Wheeling Wilkes Barre Scranton 5:00PM

GAME NOTES: This game will be played in Wilkes Barre/Scranton due to scheduling conflicts in Wheeling. Reading beat Wheeling 7-3 in their first contest of the regular season on October 11 in Reading. Brian McCullough posted the Royals first hat trick and Jeff Giuliano recorded five assists in the win (franchise high).

Wednesday, October 16 vs. Greensboro Sovereign Center 7:05PM

GAME NOTES: Dan Riva led the way for Reading with two goals, including the game winner in the 5-3 win. Simon Tremblay registered two goals on the power play for the Royals. Brad Rooney tallied three assists as well for Reading. Seven of the eight goals in this contest were on the power play as Reading went four for five and Greensboro netted three power play goals in five attempts.

Friday, October 18 @ Trenton Sovereign Bank Arena 7:00PM

GAME NOTES: The Trenton Titans outscored the Royals four to one in the third period en route to a 6-2 win in Trenton. Five Titans had multiple point efforts including Eric Betournay (2g, 1a) and Chris Lynch (2g, 1a) which led the way. Duilio Grande registered his first professional goal for the Royals. The Titans outshot the Royals 40-15 in the contest.

Saturday, October 19 vs. Atlantic City Sovereign Center 7:05PM

GAME NOTES: The Bullies took game one of a scheduled nine meetings this year in the Sovereign Center in Reading 3-2. Carl Corazzini picked up the game winner for Atlantic City. Steve Rymsha tallied two assists for Reading in the loss. Scott Stirling got the win in net for the Bullies while Jeff Sanger picked up his first professional defeat.

Sunday, October 20 @ Trenton Sovereign Bank Arena 3:00PM

GAME NOTES: The Trenton Titans beat the Reading Royals 4-2 in Trenton to pick up their third win over Reading in three tries. Scott Bertoli paced the Titans with a goal and two helpers. The Royals got goals from Alex Kim and Brandon Dietrich. The Royals will meet the Titans in less than a week at home for their fourth meeting of a scheduled ten.

IN THE COMMUNITY: The Royals face off at Casa Grande tonight with Royals Weekly. Royals Weekly can be heard live on ESPN Radio, 1240AM and new affiliate WPAZ, 1370AM from Casa Grande from 6-7 p.m. This week Royals center Brad Rooney will be our special guest along with the head coach of the Manchester Monarchs Bruce Boudreau. ROYALS PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: #5 Defenseman – Simon Tremblay 4GP – 2g, 3a 5pts/ +1 Reading's all-star defenseman led the way in the Royals lone victory this week. Tremblay posted two power play tallies Wednesday to help Reading beat Greensboro. During the weekend Tremblay picked up three assists in two tough losses to Trenton and one to Atlantic City.

ROYALS PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: #39 – Jeff Sanger 3GP – 1-2-0 record 3.36GAA .894 SV% Jeff Sanger's first professional start was a memorable one...Sanger stopped 32 of 35 shots in a 5-3 win over Greensboro last Wednesday. The rookie goaltender appeared in two more games during the weekend making 43 saves out of 50 shots.
