October 21, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Devils News Release

The Trenton Titans (5-0-1) extended their regulation unbeaten streak to six games winning all three games last weekend against Northeast Division opponents. The Titans hit the road (sort of) with day trips to Atlantic City (4-0) on Friday night and Reading (2-4) on Saturday night. Friday's game with the Bullies is the first of 10 meetings in the Grainger Cup series, and the first time the teams will meet since the Bullies eliminated the Titans in the Northeast Division Finals last season. Saturday night's game with Reading is already the fourth meeting between the two teams, with the Titans holding a 3-0 edge in the series. The Titans beat the Royals twice last weekend in Trenton by a combined score of 10-4, and have outscored the Royals 17-7 in three games this season.

The "Germinator" Flexes His Muscles:

Goaltender David St. Germain finished off another outstanding weekend helping the Titans take all six points by winning three games in three nights. He stopped 61 of 66 shots, and currently ranks first overall in the ECHL in minutes played (305), is tied for first in wins (4) and is seventh in goals-against average (1.97). Dating back to his last 13 starts of the 2002-03 season, St. Germain is 15-2-1 over 18 starts with a 2.05 goals-against average.

Bertoli Leads Team, Tied For ECHL Scoring Lead:

All-Star Left Wing Scott Bertoli extended his point streak to six games thanks to three multiple point efforts and seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) in the Titans weekend sweep. This is the best start in any of his four seasons, and he is currently tied with Mississippi's Steffon Walby for first overall in the ECHL with 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists).

The Captain Returns In Fine Fashion:

Syl Apps returned to the lineup and registered points in all three games last weekend in his 2002-03 debut. In Friday and Saturday night's contests, he netted two assists in both games, and on Sunday his first period goal helped the Titans regain a lead they would never relinquish.

ABK Line Leads The Way:

The line of Syl Apps, Eric Betournay and BJ Kilbourne completed a memorable weekend. The three registered points in all three games and totaled 15 (6 goals, 9 assists) for the weekend. Betournay, re-assigned to the Titans from the Philadelphia Phantoms last Friday afternoon, netted his first two professional goals and added an assist in the 6-2 win on Friday night, while Apps (2 assists) and Kilbourne (1 goal, 1 assist) each registered multiple point efforts. On Saturday night, Kilbourne netted the game-winning goal in Richmond, with Betournay scoring his third goal of the season, and Apps chipping in with two assists. Apps scored his first goal of the season on Sunday afternoon with his line mates assisting on the play.
