Greenville Grrrowl News Release
LAST WEEK â It's the old cliché, "A two goal lead in hockey is the hardest lead to hold". The Greenville Grrrowl are 1-1-2 after a pair of games last weekend. On Friday the Grrrowl enjoyed a 5-3 lead with 11:53 left in the third period, but the Columbia Inferno rallied for a 6-5 shootout win at the Carolina Coliseum. The following night Greenville had a 3-1 lead late in the second period when the Inferno battled back to win a 4-3 shootout at the BI-LO Center Saturday night.
FRI. OCT. 18 @ CBA, 5-6 SOL: The Grrrowl scored three times in the first period, and opened a 5-3 lead in the second period. MATT DEMARSKI scored Greenville's first shorthanded goal of the season and helped give the Grrrowl that two goal cushion. Justin Morrison scored twice in regulation and tallied the game-clinching shootout goal for Columbia. MIKKO SIVONEN recorded 1-2-3 PTS. in a losing effort for Greenville. Att.: 4,141
SAT. OCT. 19 vs CBA, 3-4 L: The Grrrowl opened leads of 2-0 and 3-1, but Rejean Stringer scored with 9 seconds left in the second period, and Columbia added two more in the third to post a 4-3 win. JONATHAN ROY scored once and added an assist, and now has points in all 4 games this season (2-5-7 PTS.). Att.: 5,280
PLAYER OF THE WEEK â RW MIKKO SIVONEN
The Tampere, Finland native recorded 1 goal, 3 assists, 4 points, 6 shots on goal and was (+4) in two games for the Grrrowl last week. He opened the scoring at 2:18 of the first period Friday night at Columbia (5-6 SOL), and added 2 assists in that game. Sivonen is a 3rd year pro out of Niagara University in Western New York.
COACH JOHN MARKS SAID:
On the games... "We can skate, we can handle the puck and we've proved we can put the puck in the net. Now we've just have to do a better job of staying out of the penalty box."
What's the coaches biggest concern?... "A big disappointment right now is Martin Masa. He has no points in 4 games and is (-2). He's even been stopped twice in the shootout, and normally he's 100% in the shootout."
