San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO - It was a light week for the San Diego Gulls (3-0-0), which only saw them play one game last Sunday in Bakersfield. But even with the seven-day layoff, the Blue and Orange were ready to play and promptly beat the Condors. With the win, the Gulls are the only remaining undefeated team in the West Coast Hockey League.

R.J. Enga, last week's WCHL Player of the Week, has the early league lead with seven points and four goals. Enga has scored a point in all three games for San Diego and has crept to seventh all-time on the WCHL scoring list with 394 points. He's now eighth all-time with 169 goals... Dean Tiltgen, who scored a pair in Sunday's win against Bakersfield, comes into the week with six points... Clayton Read has five assists in three games... Mark Pederson, yet another San Diego newcomer, has the game-winning goal in all three Gulls wins...

TRANSACTIONS:

Forward Jarret Zukiwsky, signed last week, made his Gulls debut Sunday... San Diego also signed rookie goaltender Cam McCormick on Sunday... To make room on the roster, Donald Choukalos was released... Dennis Mullen was suspended for Sunday's game. He will also be out Tuesday against the Idaho Steelheads... Joe Bianchi, who is yet to play this season, was placed on the 14-day injured reserve list, retroactive to Oct. 11... Marc Busenburg, Sylvain Deschatelets and Rob Voltera all remain with the American Hockey League's Hershey Bears...

COMMUNITY UPDATE: Oct. 27: Come skate with the Gulls after they host the Bakersfield Condors. All Gulls players will be available to skate with for one hour following the game.

Nov. 1: Make-A-Wish "Jerseys Off Their Backs" night. For one night and one night only, the Gulls will don special "Make a Wish" jerseys as they host Idaho.

A silent auction will be held on the concourse during the game, and the winners of each jersey will be announced during the third period. All proceeds will benefit the San Diego Make-A-Wish Foundation. The goal for the evening is to raise enough money to grant three San Diego area children their wish.

LAST WEEK:

GULLS 4, Bakersfield 1; at Bakersfield, Sunday, Oct. 20: Trevor Koenig stopped 48 shots and the Gulls killed 14 of 15 power plays en route to their victory over Bakersfield. Tiltgen got things rolling with his first of two goals of the afternoon midway through the first period. Pederson put San Diego ahead for good in the second period. The Condors cut the lead in half toward the end of the middle frame but Tiltgen's second goal and an empty netter by Enga preserved the 4-1 win.

THIS WEEK:

This week will certainly test the Gulls' undefeated record. Their road trip continues with a pair of games in Idaho Tuesday and Wednesday, both starting at 6 p.m. (PST). The Blue and Orange will also play in Long Beach Saturday before returning home Sunday against the Condors. All games can be heard live on 1130AM-KSDO and at www.ksdo.com with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play. The Gulls' Internet radio show broadcasts this week on wsrado.ws with Tera Black and Jeremy Zager hosting.
