Last week.... The Arkansas RiverBlades split their first two road games of the season, winning 4-3 in a shootout at Pensacola on Friday night but losing 4-2 in Jackson on Saturday. Arkansas gave up 53 shots for the second game in a row at Pensacola, but Jason Saal was once again the #1 star of the game, stopping 50 of 53 shots in 65 minutes of action. Rookie Matt Poapst tallied his first professional goal in the first period. Ernie Hartlieb and Eric Long lit the lamp in the second. In the shootout, Jason Bermingham, Hartlieb and Buddy Smith put the puck past Maxime Gingras while Saal stopped 3 of 4 shots to earn Arkansas' first win of the season. Saturday night the RiverBlades got off to a slow start as Jackson scored 4 goals in the first 10:42 of the game to take control. Kyle Kos and Dean Stork scored in the third period for the Blades but it was too little too late as Arkansas dropped to 1-1-1 on the season.....HOT PLAYERS...New addition Terry Marchant (1-3-4) is the only RiverBlade to score at least one point in every game. Defenseman Kyle Kos had a big weekend with 4 points (0-2-2) vs. Pensacola and (1-1-2) vs. Jackson. Rookie Goaltender Jimi St. John got his first taste of pro action coming in relief of Jason Saal at the 10:42 mark of the first period Saturday night. The rookie from Lowell stopped all 17 shots he faced in 49:18 of play.
Upcoming...The RiverBlades play four times this week beginning with a Tuesday night rematch against Jackson at the Alltel Arena at 7:05pm.The team visits Cajun country on Friday taking on the undefeated Louisiana IceGators. Saturday night it's the third game in a week against the Jackson Bandits at the Mississippi Coliseum. The first three game in three night weekend of the year comes to a close Sunday with the Pensacola IcePitlots making their first visit to Arkansas at 6:05pm.
