Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Right fielder Eloy Jiménez had four hits and first baseman Matt Skole had two RBIs to lead the Charlotte Knights to a 3-1 win over the Gwinnett Stripers on Monday in the finale of their four-game series from BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte. With the win, the Knights and Stripers split the four-game series (two games apiece).
Jiménez, the top prospect in the Chicago White Sox system, finished Monday's game with another solid day at the plate. A night after nearly hitting-for-the-cycle, Jiménez went 4-for-4 with one run scored. His four-hit game upped his batting average to .378 in 49 games with the Knights this season. Jiménez has seven hits over his last two games and 18 hits over the course of his seven-game hitting streak.
The Stripers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a solo home run from third baseman Austin Riley. The solo home run came off LHP Colton Turner, who started for the Knights and was solid over four innings. In fact, that was the only run Gwinnett could muster in the game. The Knights held the club to just one run on two hits.
RHP Brandon Brennan (1-1, 9.00) earned the win out of the bullpen for the Knights. He tossed two shutout innings. LHP Aaron Bummer worked a scoreless seventh inning, while RHP Ian Hamilton shut out the Stripers over the final two innings to earn his ninth save of the season.
The Knights will open a three-game series against the Durham Bulls (Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) starting on Tuesday night. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. and pre-game radio coverage will begin at 6:50 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action.
