
IceGators look to regroup during All-Star break

Lafayette, LA â The IceGators limped into the All-Star break with an 0-2 trip through the state of South Carolina. For the first time in team history the Gators are below .500 at the break. However, the team is only 6 points out of the last playoff with 33 games left to be played, including 18 on the "Frozen Swamp".
Last Week
Friday, a two game swing through South Carolina started off on a bad note as the PeeDee Pride controlled the game from the opening face off, sending the Gators to a 6-1 defeat. Defenseman Adam Elzinga had two goals and an assist for the Pride. The IceGators one bright spot occurred at 8:40 of the 3rd when the "Hinton Connection" struck again. Jade Galbraith's pass toward the net was redirected past Nick Boucher by Mark Rooneem for his 8th of the season.
Saturday, The Gators playing with only 13 skaters, gave up two third period goals as they fell to South Carolina 3-1. The Stingrays league best winning streak extended to eight games with the win. Jade Galbraith's 8th goal of the season sent the game to the 2nd intermission tied at 1. Two defensive mistakes seconds apart lead to the Gators downfall in the 3rd period. Turnovers led to goals by Carlyle Lewis (4) on a wrist shot from the slot at 3:24. Then 32 seconds later Brad Parsons put a rebound past Marsters for the 3-1 final score.
The Nominees are: The IceGators nominees for ECHL of the weekly awards are Jade Galbraith and Goaltender Nathan Marsters.
The Week Ahead
The IceGators road trek for the month of January will end with a weekend set in Estero, Florida, when the Gators and Everblades meet for the first of six meetings this season. Former IceGators defenseman and current ECHL all-star, Matt Pagnutti, has helped Florida to a record of 20-13-6, 46 points and 2nd place in the South Division. The Blades are unbeaten in their last six games with the unusual record of 1-0-5 during that span.

The B2 network will provide a video feed of both games available through the "Watch Live" box on the home page of the Gators website.
Notes
"The Hinton Connection": Since coming to Louisiana, Jade Galbraith has averaged more than a point a game with 10 points, (4-6-10) in nine games as a Gator.
"Taking Care of the D-Zone": Despite missing several games due to injury, defenseman Josh Barker leads the team in +/- with a rating of +8.
Serious Ice Time: Rookie Nathan Marsters is now 2nd in the ECHL in minutes played with 1775:15. The rookie from RPI is also 2nd in saves with 930. Marsters has played in 26 of the last 27 IceGators contests but will not get any rest as he is the Gators sole representative at the 2005 Coors Light ECHL All-Star Game to be played Wednesday night in Reading, PA.
Community News
Due to the All-Star break there will be no "Gator Talk" this week, The show will return live from Tampico's on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at 7pm. Because of the break, there will be no practices scheduled for this week as the team will leave for Florida early Wednesday night.
Project MAMA
For the entire season the Gators are encouraging fans to participate in the Project MAMA. A list of supplies needed by our local troops serving overseas is listed at http://www.icegators.com/news/?cat=1&id=627 and in the lobby of the Cajundome for during every IceGators home game.. The team will have drop off points at the Cajundome for every home game and the effort will culminate our next Armed Forces Nights on March 20, 2005. On this night, children of our deployed troops will have a special day of IceGators hockey complete with a tour of the locker room and a picture with their favorite player. That picture along with supplies will be sent to loved ones overseas. Any business wanting to participate in project MAMA by donating tickets for these families, can call the IceGators office at (337) 234-4423.
