
Wellar Replaces Sanford On National Conference Roster

PRINCETON, N.J. â The ECHL announced on Monday that Peoria defenseman Patrick Wellar will replace teammate James Sanford, who is currently on call up to Hamilton of the American Hockey League, on the National Conference roster for the 2005 Coors Light ECHL All-Star Game.
Under contract to St. Louis of the National Hockey League and in his first professional season, the 21-year-old Wellar has five points (1g-4a) and 45 penalty minutes in 31 games with Peoria. Selected in the third round (77th overall) by Washington in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-3 and 205-pound Wellar played three seasons in the Western Hockey League with Portland, scoring 27 points (6g-21a) in 130 regular season games and three assists in 17 playoff games, and two seasons with Calgary, scoring 31 points (10g-21a) in 117 regular season games and two points (1g-1a) in 12 playoff games. In 2003-04, he was named Calgary's "Best Defenseman" after finishing with 17 points (7g-10a) and 132 penalty minutes in 68 regular season games and two points (1g-1a) and 10 penalty minutes in seven playoff games.
The 13th Annual ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition will be held at the 7,215-seat Sovereign Center in Reading, Pa. The Skills Competition will be on January 25 at 7:05 p.m. and the All-Star Game will be played on January 26 at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are still available for all events and can be purchased at the Reading Royals box office or by telephone at (610) 898-7825.
