
Gold, Khourey, and Turak join Nailers to hold High School Hockey Challenge

WHEELING, WV â The Wheeling Nailers and Gold, Khourey, and Turak will be hosting the first annual High School Hockey Challenge for local high schools, during the intermissions at upcoming games. The local law firm of the Ohio Valley wanted to team with the Nailers to improve the quality of hockey in the area.
The challenge will feature four local high school teams that will compete in events such as, speed race, breakaway relay, and hardest shot. Each school will be represented by three players and one goalie, and the coaches from each team will select their participants.
On February 6th when the Nailers face the San Diego Gulls, Wheeling Central Catholic will compete against the Linsly School during the first intermission. And on February 25th when the Nailers play the Trenton Titans, Wheeling Park will compete against John Marshall during the first intermission. The winners of the first two competitions will move on to the finals which will be held on March 13th.
Along with the skills challenge during the Nailers games, Head Coach Pat Bingham brought some of his players to each teams practices during the month of January. On January 4th Coach Bingham and Brendon Hodge went to Wheeling Central Catholic practice to work on defensive zone coverage. Coach Bingham and Ben Blais worked with the Linsly School on January 12th, and on January 17th Steve Crampton, Cam Paddock and Coach Bingham instructed John Marshall. Finally on the 18th of January Pascal Morency and Coach Bingham worked with the Wheeling Park team.
The Nailers next home game is Saturday against the Reading Royals, which will be Pirates Caravan Night. Several of the Pirates players and staff will be in attendance at the game to sign autographs and visit with fans.
