Mississippi Racks Up Wins Into All-Star Break

BILOXI, Miss. – The Mississippi Sea Wolves reeled off two wins last week to extend their overall winning streak to three straight games heading into the ECHL All-Star break.

On Friday, Mississippi topped Augusta 3-1 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and followed it up by visiting Greenville, South Carolina on Saturday, edging the Grrrowl 5-4 in the shootout.

With the ECHL All-Star Game on Wednesday, the Sea Wolves reach the halfway point of the 72-game regular season with a 19-14-3 record for 41 points in 36 games.

Mississippi is positioned in fourth place in the South Division and sits eighth in the 12-team American Conference.

The Sea Wolves are 9-8-1 at home, 10-6-2 on the road, 2-2 in overtime games and 3-1 in shootouts.

Sea Wolves 3, Lynx 1 – Win
* Mississippi scored three goals in third period
* Sea Wolves' Lucas Drake tallied a shorthand goal, while Pat O'Leary and Austin Miller also netted markers
* Lynx forward Todd Bennett scored a power-play goal for Augusta
* Mississippi's Matt Underhill made 38 saves in the win
* Augusta's Jason Saal turned away 25 shots in the loss


Saturday, January 22 at Greenville Grrrowl – BI-LO Center, Greenville, South Carolina
Sea Wolves 5, Grrrowl 4 – Shootout Win
* Mississippi tallied three goals in the third period for the second straight game
* Sea Wolves had goals from Travis Lisabeth, Chris Cava, Mike Jarmuth and Louis Dumont in regulation
* Grrrowl collected two goals each from Kevin Bergin and Scotty Balan
* In the shootout, Mississippi's Kerry Ellis-Toddington and Jeff Hutchins tallied
* Sea Wolves' Matt Underhill stopped 33 shots, plus all four in the shootout to preserve the victory
* Greenville goaltender Ryan Person, who made his debut in the Grrrowl net, turned away 50 shots only to suffer the setback
* Dumont's goal was his 300th career ECHL goal, becoming the sixth player in league history to reach the milestone

* First of three head-to-head meetings and opener of two, which are on back-to-back nights at the Wolves Den
* In 2003-04, Mississippi was 2-0-0 against the Pride, including a win in the only game at Mississippi last season, which ended 3-2 in favor of the Sea Wolves on February 3
* Mississippi left wing Pat O'Leary, center Nicolas Corbeil and goaltender Matt Underhill go up against their former team for the first time
* O'Leary started the season with Pee Dee, appearing in six games and notching four assists before being acquired by Mississippi in a trade on November 3 for future considerations
* Corbeil started his professional career by playing in 31 games with the Pride in 2003-04, posting nine goals and 24 points. Corbeil signed with Mississippi as a free agent July 26, 2004.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Rookie defenseman Mike Jarmuth collected a goal, three assists and a plus/minus of +3 in two games, both of which were Mississippi victories last week. The 6-foot and 205-pound Jarmuth had an assist and a plus/minus of +2 in the Sea Wolves 3-1 win over Augusta on Friday. The 22-year-old then followed it up with his second multiple-point game of the season by registering a goal and two assists along with a +1 in the win on Saturday at Greenville. A native of Monkton, Ontario, Jarmuth has a total of seven goals including three power-play tallies, 15 points, a plus/minus of +2 and 10 penalty minutes, while appearing in 36 games.

GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK – Matt Underhill backstopped the Sea Wolves to a pair of victories going 2-0-0 last week. The 25-year-old made 71 saves on 76 shots over the two games, posting a 2.40 goals-against average. The 6-foot-2 and 220-pound Underhill has an overall record of 11-6-3 to go along with a team-leading 2.62 goals-against average and .924 save percentage. A native of Campbell River, British Columbia, Underhill also has a team-leading three shutouts, which is tied for second among ECHL goaltenders.
