The Greenville Grrrowl have won 4 of their last 5 games, and last week they claimed 6 of a possible 8 points. The Grrrowl played 4 games in 5 days, and posted wins over South Carolina, Richmond and Columbia. The lone loss was a 3-2 setback to the South Carolina Stingrays in North Charleston on Saturday.
WEDNESDAY: The Grrrowl went 3 for 12 on the PP, and JUDD MEDAK scored the game-winner in a 4-3 win over South Carolina... Greenville outshot the Stingrays 37-23 in front of 4,115 at the BI-LO Center.
FRIDAY: Goaltender JAYME PLATT recorded 34 saves for the Grrrowl's first shutout of the season â a 3-0 win over Richmond in Greenville...Platt's only other professional shutout was a 4-0 win over Pee Dee last season on 1/15/02.
SATURDAY: The Grrrowl outshot the South Carolina Stingrays 37-33, but dropped a 3-2 decision in front of 6,639 at the N. Charleston Coliseum... the loss snapped Greenville's modest winning streak at 3 games.
SUNDAY: Greenville moved above the .500 mark (10-9-2) with a 4-3 win over the Inferno in Columbia... MARTIN MASA broke a 3-3 tie with his 6th goal of the season at 12:09 of the third period to give Greenville the win.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK â MATT DEMARSKI
The Winnipeg, Manitoba native recorded 6 assists in 4 games last week for the Grrrowl. He had two multiple assist games against Richmond on Friday and at South Carolina Saturday. The Grrrowl alternate captain is 4th on the team scoring list with 18 points in 21 games. He is also tied for second in the ECHL with 3 SHG's.
GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK â JAYME PLATT
The Redmond, Washington native recorded Greenville's first shutout of the season â a 34 save performance in Friday's 3-0 win over Richmond at the BI-LO Center. Platt stopped 30 of 32 shots in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the South Carolina Stingrays in North Charleston. He went 1-1-0 on the week with a 1.00 GAA, 0.969 SVPCT, 1 SO
THIS WEEK â The Grrrowl prepare for three games in three days
The Greenville Grrrowl host a pair of games this weekend before traveling to Georgia on Sunday. The weekend starts with a date against the rival Charlotte Checkers on Friday at the BI-LO Center (7:05 PM, Newsradio 1330 & 950, WORD). The Columbia Inferno invade Greenville on Saturday at 7:35 PM (WORD). Then, the Grrrowl travel to Augusta to face the Lynx on Sunday afternoon (4:05 PM, joined in progress after Cincinatti Bengals @ Carolina Panthers, WORD).
FRI. 12/06 vs. CHARLOTTE â The Grrrowl and Checkers prepare for their 3rd of 5 meetings... Greenville won the first two meetings of the season... the Checkers have lost 4 straight, and do not play between now and Friday's game in Greenville... they are 3-6-1 on the road... TAKAHITO SUZUKI is tied for 10th in scoring amongst ECHL rookies (9-7-16 pts. in 18 games)...Charlotte is the only team in the league that has not been involved in a shootout... they have been outscored 26-14 in the first period... SAT. 12/07 vs. COLUMBIA â The Grrrowl and Inferno battle in the 4th of 9 meetings this season... Greenville posted a 4-3 win in Columbia Sunday afternoon... they are 7-6-0 on the road... JUSTIN MORRISON and REJEAN STRINGER are tied for 4th in the ECHL scoring race with 31 points each... goaltender KIRK DAUBENSPECK leads the league with 13 wins and 4 SOW's... The Inferno have the league's best PK unit, 92.8%... they are the second least penalized team, 20.3 PIM's/game... they travel to Pee Dee on Friday, before Sat. game here...
