Greensboro Generals News Release
UPCOMING WEEK: The Generals hit the road for three games this week as they complete a four game road trip. Greensboro visits the Reading Royals on Tuesday night at 7:05. The Generals and Royals have faced each other twice this season, with each team winning on home ice. On Thursday at 7:05, the Generals travel to Richmond for the first time this season to square off with the Renegades. The Generals dropped an overtime decision to Richmond in the only other meeting thus far. Greensboro's week closes out on Saturday night at 7:35, as they trek down Interstate 85 to tangle with the Charlotte Checkers. The Generals are 1-0-1 against Charlotte this year, with both games played on the road. The Generals don't play at home until entertaining the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies on Wednesday, December 11. All games this season can be heard on the Generals new flagship radio station, WPET AM-950. You can also hear the games online by logging on to www.greensborogenerals.com.
LAST WEEK: 11/28 COLUMBUS 1, GREENSBORO 2 ¨ The Generals fell behind 1-0 midway through the first period, but it would be the only goal netminder Jamie Hodson would allow all night on 32 total shots. Greensboro's Vlad Serov tied the game late in the first period, and Matt Turek scored the game-winning goal in the final minute of the second period. Hodson was at his best in the third period, stopping all 16 shots he faced, including his best of the night on the Cottonmouths' J. J. Hunter with just 1.8 seconds left in the game to preserve the victory.
11/29 SOUTH CAROLINA 1, GREENSBORO 2 (SO) ¨ The Generals were held off the scoreboard for almost the entire hockey game by Stingrays goaltender Kirk Daubenspeck, but they scored when it counted most. Vlad Serov tied the game at 1-1 with just 2:35 left in regulation, setting the stage for a dramatic ten round shootout. The Generals fell behind 2-0 in the shootout, but goals from Serov and Jay Murphy quickly evened it at 2-2 through three rounds. Then the goalies took over, stopping six straight shootout attempts each. The Generals newest player, Rod Aldoff, won the game in the tenth round. Generals netminder Daniel Berthiaume was a stalwart in goal, stopping 34 of 35 shots, plus eight of ten shootout attempts. The game also marked the first time Generals coach Rick Adduono faced his former team.
11/30 GREENSBORO 3, JOHNSTOWN 2 (SO) ¨ For the third straight night, the Generals overcame a 1-0 deficit to win a hockey game. Trailing 1-0 late in the second period, Greensboro's Sam Ftorek single-handedly took over. On his 28th birthday, he scored two power play goals just 1:40 apart to give the Generals the lead 2-1 entering the third period. The Chiefs managed a third period goal to send the game to a shootout, but the Generals dominated the shootout, outscoring them 2-0 in four rounds. Daniel Berthiaume had another strong effort, stopping 30 of 32 shots and all four shootout attempts.
