Alaska Aces News Release

BOISE, Idaho – After enduring another three-game sweep at the hands of the first-place Idaho Steelheads, the Anchorage Aces fly home today in preparation for a crucial five-game stretch at Sullivan Arena this week.

The Aces trailed 2-0 entering the third period of last Wednesday's series opener, but twice drew within a single goal before falling 5-2. Anchorage led on three separate occasions of Friday's game, the last time when B.J. Young converted a power play early in the third period for a 4-3 edge, but Idaho scored twice in the final eight minutes to pull out a 5-4 victory. The Aces submitted meekly in Saturday's finale, enduring their first shutout of the season as Jason Cugnet recorded 21 saves for the Steelheads in a 4-0 win. Anchorage has lost all eight meetings between the two clubs this season.

Yvan Corbin, who scored his first goal in seven games during Saturday's loss, is tied for second in the WCHL with 10 goals and tied for third with 22 points. Dean Larson is tied for fourth in the league with 13 assists and tied for fifth at 21 points. Young's 108 minutes in penalties rank fifth in the WCHL.

Anchorage returns to Sullivan Arena for a five-game homestand beginning Tuesday and Wednesday night against Long Beach (8-8) at 7:00 p.m. AST. The Aces (4-14-1) and Ice Dogs split a series at Sullivan two weeks ago as Anchorage rallied to win the first game 3-2 November 19 on Jiri Jakes' game-winner with 8:32 remaining but Long Beach cruised to a 5-2 win the next night. The Condors, who had their nine-game winning streak snapped in Long Beach Sunday, roll into Alaska for Friday and Saturday night contests at 7:00 p.m. along with a Sunday matinee scheduled for 5:00 p.m. that will include a postgame skate with the Aces' players. Anchorage defeated Bakersfield 3-2 October 19 in the only meeting thus far in 2002-03.

All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.anchorageaces.com or www.kfqd.com with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
