SHORTS
"Ersk" Doesn't Just Get Under The Opponents "Skine": John Erskine had a weekend to remember in Houston with the two losses symbolizing the only negative. The big defenseman scored the Grizzlies' first goal of the season in the first period of game number one versus the Aeros on a blast from just within the blueline. Erskine appeared to be primed to score his second goal the next night but the puck was deflected right onto the stick if Steve Ott who scored his first AHL goal giving a helper to Erskine. Putting points on the scoreboard wasn't all that he did as he also compiled 35 PIM's and finished the weekend as a +1.
Goaltenders Seeing Some Rubber: Grizzlies' netminders Corey Hirsch and Jason Bacashihua took turns facing some blasts as Hirsch stopped 42 of 45 shots (.933 save %) on Friday night and Bacashihua stopped 47 of 49 shots faced (.959 save %). The pair gave up five goals (Houston scored an empty net goal on Saturday) on 94 shots for a combined save percentage of close to 95 percent.
Montreal Contributes To The Cause: The Utah Grizzlies received three players from the Canadiens prior to the start of the season; centers Eric Landry and Eric Chouinard and defenseman Matthieu Descoteaux. Between the three players, 86 NHL games have been participated in with Landry leading the way with 68 games in the NHL.
Grizzlies' Lose Sim Before First Game: The Grizzlies were assigned RW Jon Sim last week prior to the beginning of the season giving the offense an additional weapon but before he could lace the skates up for one game he was re-called by Dallas to replace Jason Arnott who is going to miss two weeks with a sprained ankle. Sim has yet to dress in the Star's first three games.
