Charlotte Forfeits Victory Against Greenville
October 14, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release
PRINCETON, N.J. Â The East Coast Hockey League announced on Monday that because it unknowingly played an ineligible player, Charlotte must forfeit its win against Greenville on Friday, October 11.
Player Paul Traynor, although released from an American Hockey League training camp, was still the property of another ECHL team.
In accordance with ECHL rules, Greenville will be credited with a 1-0 forfeit win, but the individual statistics accumulated in the game are not changed. Charlotte will also be fined an undisclosed amount.
"While this situation was the result of an unintentional error, East Coast Hockey League teams are responsible for ensuring that each of their players are eligible to play according to League Rules and Regulations," said ECHL President/CEO Brian McKenna.
The record and points for both teams will be adjusted accordingly in the ECHL statistics. Greenville is 1-0-1 with three points while Charlotte is 0-1-0 with zero points.
