'Gades Open at Home Friday

Richmond Renegades News Release


The Richmond Renegades opened the 2002-'03 ECHL season with a pair of losses in New Jersey last weekend. The 'Gades finish a three game road trip at Augusta Tuesday then play at home Friday and Saturday. Richmond plays 10 of their first 13 on the road.

Tuesday, October 15 @ Augusta 7:00 PM

GAME NOTES: First of two meetings and the 'Gades only visit to Augusta this season. Richmond is looking for their first ever win vs. the Lynx. Augusta won both meetings last season. ‘Gades are 0-5 all-time vs. Lynx, 0-3 at Augusta. Lars Pettersen and Trevor Gillies are ex-Lynx. The Lynx Jim Shepherd is a former Renegade.

Friday, October 18 vs. Charlotte 7:35 PM

GAME NOTES: First of nine meetings, four here. 'Gades were 2-2 vs. Charlotte last season. Two of the four games went to overtime. Checkers were second in the league in goals per game last season (3.6). Charlotte advanced to the second round of the playoffs last season. Takahito Suzuki had a hat trick on opening night for the Checkers.

Saturday, October 19 vs. Trenton 7:35 PM

GAME NOTES: Second of eight meetings. First of four here. Titans beat the 'Gades 4-3 in their first meeting. 'Gades were 2-3 vs. the Titans at home last season. Paul Spadafora had two goals in the first meeting. Adam Edinger added two assists. Brad Church and Lars Pettersen had a goal and assist for the 'Gades.

Friday, October 11 @ Trenton LOSS 4-3

GAME NOTES: The 'Gades fell behind 3-0 but battled back. Shawn Mamane scored the first 'Gades goal of the season shorthanded. Lars Pettersen cut the Titans lead to 3-2. Trenton went up 4-2 but Brad Church scored on the power play. Richmond pulled goalie Marc Magliarditi but fell short. Scott Bertoli scored twice for the Titans.

Saturday, October 12 @ Atlantic City LOSS 3-0

GAME NOTES: Clubs battled through 40 scoreless minutes. Bullies blew the game open with three goals in 12 minutes in the third period. 'Gades out-shot the Bullies 35-32 and were four for four on the penalty kill. Scott Stirling earned the shutout. Paul Spadafora had two assists for the Bullies. Ryan Mougenel scored the game-winner.

‘GADES NOTES: Richmond has 22 players in camp but only 19 on the active roster. Three 'Gades had to sit out the first two games due to immigration paperwork. Jonathan Zion, Nick Manach, and Milt Mastad are waiting on INS clearance. Ryan Van Buskirk joined the 'Gades Saturday from Portland of the AHL but did not play. The 'Gades made two moves prior to the opener at Trenton. Richmond traded defenseman Scott Crawford to Jackson and waived defenseman Darren Wetherill. Going back to last season the 'Gades have dropped four straight regular season games. The 'Gades dressed seven rookies in the lineup on opening night. The 'Gades are eight of nine on the penalty kill in their first two games and have a shorthanded goal. Alex Matieroukine picked up his first two pro points with a pair of assists in the season opener. Richmond lost a season opener for the first time in five years. The ‘Gades have won their last four home openers. Brad Church is expected to miss Tuesday's game due to the birth of his second child. Mastad, Church, and Brian Goudie were named rotating tri-captains by coach Gord Dineen. Goudie wore the "C" for the first two games.

‘GADES ABOUT TOWN: Renegades Head Coach Gord Dineen will have two regular radio shows this season. Catch Gord on WXGI with Big Al Coleman every Tuesday at 7:52 AM. Gord will also visit with Sports Radio 910's Mike Maniscalco every Thursday at 6:05 PM. This week Dan Vandermeer and Leon Hawyard will visit the B103 morning show Thursday at 8 AM. Trevor Gillies and Dan Lombard will be on Q94 with Billy Surf Friday at 8 AM.
