Florida Everblades News Release


The Florida Everblades opened the 2002-03 season on the road by defeating the Augusta Lynx 5-2 on Friday night and fell in two consecutive shootouts 3-2 on Saturday in Augusta and 2-1on Sunday in Columbus. The Everblades captured 4 out of a possible 6 points this past weekend. Florida hits the road for three more games this weekend in Columbia and Pee Dee. All 72 regular season games can be heard on Sportsradio 770 AM, NewsRadio 1660 AM WCNZ and on the Internet at www.floridaeverblades.com with the "Voice of the Everblades" Mark Miller calling the play-by-play. Listen to The Gerry Fleming Coaches Show presented by Stevie Tomato's Sportspage each Monday on Sportsradio 770 AM from 6:30-7:30 PM. Tonight's show will be live on remote at Stevie Tomato's Sportspage on Shirley St. in Naples with special guests defenseman Vince Williams and assistant coach Terry Lindgren.

Thursday, October 17th @ Columbia 7:05 PM/EST

GAME NOTES: The Everblades and Inferno will meet for the first time this season. Florida holds a 5-2-1 record all-time against the Inferno and a 2-1-1 record in Columbia. The Inferno are tied for fourth place in the ECHL's Southeast Division with a record of 1-1-0. Forward Shawn Wansborough leads the Inferno in scoring with 1-2-3 this season. Their power play ranks 11th and their penalty kill ranks 9th.

Friday, October 18th @ Pee Dee 7:30 PM/EST

GAME NOTES: The Everblades and Pride will meet for the first time this season. Florida holds a 12-15-2 record all-time against the Pride and a 4-8-1 record in Pee Dee. Last season, Florida went 2-5-1 against Pee Dee. The Pride are in second place in the ECHL's Southeast Division with a record of 1-0-1. Forward Preston Mizzi leads the Pride in scoring with 1-4-5 this season. Their power play ranks 5th and their penalty kill ranks 21st.

GAME NOTES: The Everblades and Pride meet in the second of a pair of weekend games in Pee Dee.

LAST WEEK'S RESULTS

Friday, October 11 @ Augusta 5-2 W Five different players scored for the as the Florida Everblades routed the Augusta Lynx 5-2 in the season opener at the Augusta Civic Center. Rob Zepp recorded the win in goal for the Everblades, while Josh Blackburn suffered the loss.

Saturday, October 12 @ Augusta 2-3 SOL

The Augusta Lynx defeated the Florida Everblades 3-2 in a shootout. Forward Don Smith and defenseman Shaun Fisher picked up the goals for the Everblades.

Sunday, October 13 @ Columbus 1-2 SOL

Mike Morrison stopped 40 of 41 shots during the game and all four Everblades shooters during the shootout as the Columbus Cottonmouths defeated the Florida Everblades 2-1. The Everblades remain unbeaten during regulation and picked up a point for the shootout loss. The Everblades are 1-0-2 on the season.

ECHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINATION: The Everblades ECHL player of the week nomination is forward Don Smith. The Niagara Falls, NY native registered a point in each game this past week and had 1-2-3 on the weekend.

ECHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK NOMINATION: The Everblades ECHL goaltender of the week nomination is Rob Zepp. The Newmarket, Ontario native was 1-0-1 this past week with a 1.50 GAA and a .957 SPCT. He was the first star of the game on Friday night and was the third star this past Sunday.
