Komets Begin 51st Season of Play

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets opened their 4th UHL season and 51st in Fort Wayne Friday night at Rockford, Illinois. The K's lost 5-2 to the Hogs in Fort Wayne's only game scheduled for the season opening weekend. The Komets are now 2-2-0 in UHL season openers.

Fort Wayne tallies were scored by Kelly Perrault and Sean Venedam, each getting their first goals as a Komet. Michel Massie assisted on each goal. In goal Pokey Reddick stopped 18 of 23 shots before leaving the game with a shoulder injury. It was his 600th regular season appearance as a pro in North America. In relief, Scott Rideout made 2 saves on 2 shots to finish the game.

This week the Komets travel east to Elmira to face the Jackals Friday night before heading to Adirondack for a Saturday night match. Sunday the Komets finish a weekend of 3-games in 3-nights at Port Huron.

Reddick placed on 14-day IR.....Komet goalie Pokey Reddick suffered a dislocated shoulder in Friday night's affair at Rockford. The injury will sideline the veteran netminder 2-4 weeks. Reddick has been placed on the 14-day injured reserved list retroactive to Friday night, Oct. 11.

Goalie Tom Lawson to fill the void.....the Komets announced today that goaltender Tom Lawson has been given the call to help fill the void while Reddick is on I.R. Lawson, 23, skated his first pro season with Knoxville in the UHL 2 years ago during the 2000-01 season earning a 3.48 goals against average and .899 save percentage in 35 games. Last season Lawson appeared in 1 game with Anchorage WCHL before suffering a season-ending knee injury. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound goalie attended the Chicago Wolves AHL camp prior to this season, then appeared in 2 exhibition games with Greenville ECHL before being released. Lawson has arrived in Fort Wayne and practiced with the Komets this morning.

Milestones.....Pokey Reddick appeared in his 600th regular season game Friday night at Rockford. Scott Rideout, playing 7 minutes in relief of Reddick, made his first regular season appearance as a pro. Defenseman Michael Lanthier made his first appearance as a pro at Rockford Friday night. The game also marked the beginning of Bob Chase's 50th consecutive season broadcasting play-by-play behind the Komet microphone.

Milestones ahead.....coach Greg Puhalski has coached 297 regular season UHL games.....skater David-Alexandre Beauregard has appeared in 195 regular season UHL games.

Marathon/Komets Fill Up Cards are back.....once again this year, the Komets have teamed with Marathon to offer fans a chance to get gas at Marathon for a free Komet ticket offer. 3 fill-ups stamped on a Marathon/Komet Fill Up card gets customers a "Buy One, Get One Free" ticket offer good on select Marathon nights at Komet home games all season long. The first Marathon Night of the season is Friday, Nov. 15 when the Komets host Adirondack at 7:35pm. Fill Up cards can be redeemed at the Coliseum Ticket Office.
