LAST WEEK:
10/11 GREENSBORO 4, LEXINGTON 3 (SO) ¨ Greensboro won their season opener in dramatic fashion behind their newest player, Pete Gardiner. Claimed off waivers from the Roanoke Express just two days earlier, Gardiner took his aggression out on the Men O' War. Gardiner scored the first Generals goal of the season in the first period for a 1-0 edge, then assisted on a David Whitworth tally in the final second of the first. But Gardiner saved his best for last, netting the game-tying goal with just 1:43 left in the third period, then notching the game-deciding goal in the shootout. Daniel Berthiaume saved 29 of 32 shots for the win, and Chris Bell chipped in a pair of assists.
10/12 GREENSBORO 3, LEXINGTON 0 ¨ Daniel Berthiaume was the story in this game, turning aside all 27 shots he faced to earn the shutout en route to the Generals first 2-0 start in team history. David Whitworth led the attack with the first two goals of the game. Sam Ftorek added a goal and an assist in the victory and Kurt Drummond dished out two assists. Specialty teams played a major role in the win, as the Generals netted two power play goals and killed all eleven shorthanded situations.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES:
PLAYER: David Whitworth â Whitworth had three goals in the Generals two victories to start the campaign. His goal on Friday night came as the first period horn sounded to give the Generals the lead. Whitworth backed that up with a two goal performance in Saturday's 3-0 shutout triumph, including the game-winner. Whitworth finished the weekend with a +1 rating.
GOALIE: Daniel Berthiaume â Berthiaume's debut in a Generals uniform was phenomenal. The 16-year veteran stopped 29 of 32 shots in regulation and four of five shootout attempts in the season opening 4-3 shootout triumph over the Men O' War. He was even better the following night, saving all 27 shots that came his way in a 3-0 shutout performance. To top it all off, Berthiaume assisted on the Generals' final goal of the night. Berthiaume's finished the week with a 2-0-0 record, a 1.44 goals against average, and a .949 save percentage, saving 56 of 59 shots.
