THE WEEK AHEAD

Thursday, October 17th vs. Florida 7:05pm Carolina Coliseum

This is the first meeting between Columbia and Florida. The Everblades have played three games and hold a record of 1-0-2 (tied for first place with 4 points in the Southeast Division).

Friday, October 18th vs. Greenville 7:05pm Carolina Coliseum

Greenville is 0-1-1 and in last place of the Southeastern Division. Last year, Columbia had a record of 4-3-1 against the Grrrowl.

Saturday, October 19th at Greenville 7:30pm Bi-Lo Center

This will be the second road game for the Inferno for the month of October.

LAST WEEK

Friday, October 11th COLUMBIA 6 Columbus 3

The Inferno special teams was the story of the night going three for six on the power play and eight for eight on the penalty kill. Robin Carruthers shorthanded goal at 11:27 in the first period was his first goal in his first professional start. In the second period, defenseman Clint Way tallied his first goal of the season on a power play pass from Rejean Stringer. The Inferno went up 3 - 2 on Matt Ulwelling's score at 9:18 in the second period. Corey Hessler deflected a Stringer shot past Columbus Cottonmouths goaltender Matus Kostur with one second remaining in the second period to make the score 4 - 3. The third period belonged to the Inferno as they scored sixteen seconds apart to put the game away. Shawn Wansborough scooted the puck past Kostur off a beautiful saucer pass from Mike Legg. Matt Ulwelling wrapped up the scoring with his second goal of the night for the final score of 6 – 3.

Saturday, October 12th PEE DEE 5 Columbia 2

The Pride jumped in front of the Inferno early taking a 2-0 lead into the first intermission on a first minute goal by Kyle Kidney and a late one from Preston Mizzi. Shawn Wansborough brought the Inferno back within one, when he found the net off of the helpers from Corey Hessler and Barrie Moore, midway through the second period. The Pride was able to regain the two-goal lead when Michael Glumac netted his first of the season, six minutes later. Rejean Stringer finished the scoring for the Inferno with less than two minutes to go in the second, Sean Owens assisting. Once again, the Pride scored quickly with another first minute goal from Wes Goldie at :33 of the third period. The Pride put the game out of reach when Preston Mizzi scored his second of the night, a shorthanded goal at 14:50 of the final stanza.
