Frk's Hat-Trick Lifts Wranglers to 5-4 Shootout Win over Canucks

Calgary Wranglers News Release

Martin Frk netted a hat-trick and added the shootout winner as the Wranglers edged the Abbotsford Canucks 5-4 in an intense contest in Abbotsford.

Frk opened the scoring in the first period, burying a penalty shot after being hooked on a breakaway.

He followed that up with a rocket one-timer from the left circle, with Rory Kerins picking up the helper.

Christian Wolanin scored for Abbotsford late in the frame, cutting the Wranglers' lead.

Kerins gave the Wranglers a two-goal cushion early in the second, tipping home a shot off Ty Tullio.

But the Canucks pushed back with goals from Cooper Walker and Danila Klimovich to square things up heading into the third.

Frk completed his hat-trick in the final frame, but Nate Smith answered for the Canucks, forcing extra time.

Overtime solved nothing, sending it to the skills competition where William Strömgren and Frk sealed the deal for the Wranglers.

Waltteri Ignatjew came up big between, stopping two of three Canucks shooters to secure the win.

It was a crucial two points for Calgary as they continue their playoff push down the stretch.

The Wranglers are back in action Saturday at 8 p.m. MT to close out the double-header against the Canucks.
