Condors Land A Pair On All-Rookie Team
March 31, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. â The West Coast Hockey League announced today that two Condors have made the All-Rookie Team for the 2002-03 season. The awards are the first on-ice honors for the Condors in two years.
Lennartsson, 21, has been the league leader in plus/minus for most of the season, and is currently tied with teammate, RW Jason Ralph. The Swedish blueliner has added 2g-13a-15pts this season, along with strong play in the defensive zone. He has been âeven' or better in 59 of 69 games this season, including a stretch of 26 straight, while playing in every contest. A native of Arvika, Sweden, Lennartsson twice represented his homeland at the World Junior Championships, and played last season in the Swedish 2nd Division.
Jackman, 25, is playing in his first season as a pro after competing with the University of Guelph, and previously the Ontario Hockey League's Guelph Storm. The Bowmanville, Ontario native is ranked among rookie leaders in several categories. He is third in points with 29 and tied for first with 19 assists. Lennartsson is the only rookie with a higher plus/minus than Jackman, who also is fifth in shooting percentage. He has played very well down the stretch, compiling 11 points (3g-8a) and a +12 in the last 14 games.
"I'm happy for Jonas and Jason; this is a big honor for them as well as the Condors," said Head Coach Paul Kelly. "We knew we were getting quality people and quality players with them at the beginning of the season, but they've excelled this year and have become a big part of our team's success.
The league office will announce the All-WCHL Team tomorrow. An award announcement is due every work day through April 10th, concluding with the Most Valuable Player selection.
The Condors have three games remaining in the regular season, starting with Tuesday night's match in Fresno at 7:00pm. They return to host the first-place Idaho Steelheads on Friday and Saturday night, both at 7:00pm. On Friday, the Rug Rats make their return to the Garden, sponsored by Time Warner Cable and KBID 1350. That game will be televised live on Time Warner Cable Ch. 21, and rebroadcast on Saturday morning at 10:00am. Saturday night, the first 2,000 fans will receive a Condors 5th Anniversary Cap, courtesy of Real Rock 104.3 and R.A. Kleiner Insurance.
