Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors have announced the details to reward Kern County students who excelled in the classroom with Taylor Cup Playoff tickets.

The Straight ‘A' Champions program is for any elementary or junior high school student at a participating school who received straight ‘A's for any reporting period during the 2002-03 school year. They will receive a voucher good for one student ticket, with the purchase of an adult ticket, for any of the Condors home playoff games.

Vouchers will be distributed to participating schools, which will then in turn present them to eligible students. Over two dozen schools in Kern County are participating in the program.

"This is a nice program to reward the kids that work hard all school year long," said Condors Community Relations Director John Ayre. "As an organization committed to the county's youth and their success in and out of the classroom, this is a good way to wrap up the season. Heading toward the Taylor Cup Championship, we want these academic champions to root us on to victory.

The "Straight ‘A' Champions" program comes on the heels of the Condors efforts with local schools throughout the season. With the Classroom Champions and the T.H.I.N.K. (Turning Hockey Into New Knowledge) programs, the team has rewarded students for outstanding attendance and performance in the classroom. All together, the Condors have made nearly 50 visits to schools in Kern County. For more information about the Straight ‘A' Champions program, contact John Ayre at 324-PUCK (7825).

The Condors have three games remaining in the regular season, starting with Tuesday night's match in Fresno at 7:00pm. They return to host the first-place Idaho Steelheads on Friday and Saturday night, both at 7:00pm. On Friday, the Rug Rats make their return to the Garden, sponsored by Time Warner Cable and KBID 1350. That game will be televised live on Time Warner Cable Ch. 21, and rebroadcast on Saturday morning at 10:00am. Saturday night, the first 2,000 fans will receive a Condors 5th Anniversary Cap, courtesy of Real Rock 104.3 and R.A. Kleiner Insurance.

The Condors will host Games 1 and 2 of the 2003 Taylor Cup Playoffs against the rival San Diego Gulls on April 11th and 12th. Individual tickets will go on sale for these games on Friday, April 4th at the Garden box office at 10:00am. Until that time, tickets may only be purchased through reserving a group of 20 or more people. For more information on reserving a group and taking advantage of discount pricing, call 324-PUCK (7825).

Individual tickets can be purchased at the Centennial Garden Box Office, which opens at 10:00am Monday through Saturday, by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at ticketmaster.com or stopping by any Ticketmaster location. Season tickets and group outings may be purchased by calling 324-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the Condors office next to Centennial Garden.
