Falcons Split a Pair on the Road

March 31, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release

The Fresno Falcons split the two games they played last week – a 6-3 victory over the Long Beach Ice Dogs on Friday followed by a 3-0 loss to the Bakersfield Condors on Saturday.

Fresno got off to a slow start on Friday, trailing the Ice Dogs 1-0 well into the second period. Defenseman Jason McBain then scored a short-handed goal to tie the game, and David Haas added a power play tally with less than a second to go in the frame as the team suddenly grabbed a 2-1 lead heading into the third. The offense kept rolling in the final period with four more goals to coast to the win.

The Falcons' offense lay dormant on Saturday against the Condors, though. The game marked the fourth time this season that Fresno has been shutout and was the fifth consecutive loss to Bakersfield against which they are now 2-12-1.

The Falcons enter the final week of the regular season with a record of 32-28-8 and 72 points.

GREEN AND GOLD HIGHLIGHTS FINAL WEEK OF REGULAR SEASON

Fresno's final two home games of the regular season are Tuesday and Wednesday, April 1 and 2, at 7 p.m. against the Condors and the Idaho Steelheads, respectively. The club will be wearing the classic Fresno Falcons "Green and Gold" sweaters from the days when the franchise played in the Pacific Southwest Hockey League to commemorate the team's final games at Selland Arena before moving into the Save Mart Center next season. The classic sweaters will be auctioned off after Wednesday's game at the downtown Radisson Hotel with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Tickets are still available for both games at the Selland Arena box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.com.

The Falcons finish the campaign on the road at Long Beach against the Ice Dogs on Friday and Saturday, April 4 and 5. Both games can be heard live on 103.1 FM, The Mountain Cat. Friday's broadcast begins at 7:20 p.m. with the Mail Boxes, Etc. Pre-game Show, while Saturday's broadcast kicks-off at 6:50 p.m.
