Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV - The ECHL has announced today that Wheeling Nailers forward Sean Collins has been named the ECHL Rookie of the Month for October. Collins recorded a point in each of Wheeling's four games in October, totaling four goals and six assists for 10 points to lead the Nailers to a 3-1-0 start and second place in the Northern Division.
"It's nice to be honored but I think more than anything it reflects the start we have had here in Wheeling, "said Collins.
Collins opened the season by scoring on his first professional shot in Trenton on Oct. 22. His biggest night occurred a week ago when he picked up a goal and three assists in a 6-5 shootout victory over Reading. He scored two power play goals in a 4-3 win over Dayton on Oct. 30. Through October, Collins leads all ECHL rookies in points, and ranks first on the Nailers in goals, points and plus/minus rating of plus-5.
A native of Reading, Massachusetts, the 22-year-old Collins was assigned to Wheeling from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in October after a stellar four-year career at New Hampshire. Last season he was voted top forward in New England registering 56 points to lead the Wildcats. Collins, is a former draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
