Toledo's Smith named CCM Tacks ECHL Player of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Toledo center Scooter Smith is the CCM TACKS ECHL Player of the Month for October.

In his second season with the Storm, the 24-year-old began November tied for the league lead with a team-leading 11 points and two game-winning goals while helping Toledo open the season 3-1-1 and sit atop the North Division. Smith ended October leading the Storm and tied for second in the league with five goals, six assists and a plus-minus rating of +5.

The 5-foot-10 and 180-pound Smith opened the season scoring the game-winning goal and had five points (1g-4a) in a 6-5 win over Dayton in front of a sellout crowd of 5,361 at the Toledo Sports Arena. After being held scoreless on October 22, he had two goals, including his second game winner, and had an assist in a 5-4 win at Johnstown on October 26. He ended the month with two goals, his third multiple-point game in five contests, as Toledo beat Johnstown 6-2 on October 29.

Smith, who will celebrate his 25th birthday on November 11, began his professional career with Syracuse of the American Hockey League where he had one assist in three games in 2002-03. In his first full professional season in 2003-04, he had 30 points (11g-19a) in 67 ECHL games with Dayton, Reading and Trenton. In 2004-05 with the Storm, Smith had a career-high 13 goals, 26 assists and 39 points in 41 regular season games and one assist in four Kelly Cup Playoff games.

The Calgary, Alberta native played four years at Colgate University where he scored 41 points (24g-17a) in 39 games and was named Second Team All-ECAC in 2002-03.
