Nailers' Collins named CCM Vector ECHL Rookie of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Wheeling Nailers forward Sean Collins is the CCM Vector ECHL Rookie of the Month for October.

Registering at least a point in every game and averaging over two points per game, the 22-year-old Collins finished his first month as a professional as the league leader among rookies with six assists and tied for the rookie lead with 10 points in four games. He was tied for second among all ECHL players in assists and tied for third in scoring as the Nailers went 3-1-0.

Selected in the ninth round (289th overall) by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Collins made his pro debut on October 22 and scored a goal in Wheeling's 5-3 loss at Trenton. Playing the first of three games in three nights, he had an unassisted goal and three assists in a 6-5 shootout win against Reading on October 28. He had two assists in a 4-2 win against Dayton on October 29 and scored two goals, both on the power play, and added an assist in a 4-3 win at Dayton on October 30.

The 5-foot-9 and 170-pound native of Reading, Mass. played four years at the University of New Hampshire where he scored the game-winning goal in the championship game to give UNH its first-ever Hockey East Championship in 2001-2002. He led the Wildcats to a second-consecutive Hockey East title in 2002-03 and to the NCAA Finals where UNH lost to Minnesota. He recorded 173 points (77g-96 assists) in 164 games and was named First-Team All-America in 2004-05.
