North Charleston, SC - The Gwinnett Gladiators scored four unanswered goals and held on for a 5-4 victory over the South Carolina Stingrays in front of 4,116 at the North Charleston Coliseum. The loss dropped the Rays to 2-2-3 on the season and improved Gwinnett to 3-0-1.

"We need to give a full 60 minute effort or we aren't going to win many games in our division," commented Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons. "Gwinnett outworked us for most of the night and it cost us."

Dave Spina scored at 11:01 of the first period to mark the first time this season that the Rays have drawn first blood. Spina took a pretty feed from Robin Gomez and beat Sean Fields with a backhand move. The Gladiators tied the score 31 seconds later when Ryan Fultz netted a power play goal.

The Gladiators took control of the game in the second period firing 20 shots on Maxime Daigneault and scoring three goals to begin the period. Chris Durno netted his third of the year on the power play just 29 seconds in when he backhanded a rebound into the upper left corner. Pascal Pelletier and Scott Kelman helped the visitors to a 4-1 lead before Brad Parson's power play goal. Parsons snuck out of the right corner and banked the puck off the far post past Gwinnett netminder Sean Fields.

After Pascal Pelletier gave the Gladiators a three goal lead in the third with his second of the night, the Rays grabbed late goals from John Hecimovic and Ryan Finnerty to make things interesting down the stretch.

The Stingrays will host the Charlotte Checkers Saturday night at the Coliseum at 7:05 before traveling to Charlotte for a 5:05 start on Sunday. The game in Charlotte opens Charlotte Bobcats Arena for the Checkers and begins a six game road trip for the Rays.
