Aces lose 4-1 in Utah

Alaska Aces News Release

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - Anthony Battaglia scored and had two assists while goaltender Alfie Michaud stopped 37 shots, including 19 in the third period alone, as Utah held off Alaska 4-1 before 2,868 Friday at the E-Center.

For the sixth time in seven games, the Aces scored first, as Mike Scott found Cam Keith on the rush for the latter's second goal of the year at 12:45 of the opening period. But Utah's power play, ranked first in the ECHL at 33.3% coming into the game, struck twice in a span of 1:46, as Battaglia beat Alaska goalie Matt Underhill from the right circle 73 seconds after Keith's goal to tie the game 1-1, then found James Laux for the go-ahead goal with 4:16 left in the period.

Trailing for the first time after the opening 20 minutes despite an 11-6 edge in shots on goal, the Aces never caught up, wasting two power play opportunities in a scoreless second period and a five-on-three chance early in the third. The ECHL's all-time leading scorer, Louis Dumont, pushed the Grizzlies ahead 3-1 with a one-timer just underneath the crossbar with 10:06 remaining in the contest.

Alaska (4-2-1) failed to convert three more power plays before Dumont sealed the Utah victory with an empty-netter at 18:43. The Aces out-shot the Grizzlies 19-7 in the final period and 38-26 for the game, but managed just three shots in nine efforts with the man advantage.

The Aces and Grizzlies (4-3) collide again tomorrow night at 5:05 p.m. ADT, with Alaska set to leave for Boise on Monday for a three-game series beginning Wednesday, November 9, also at 5:05 p.m. ADT. All games, home and away, will be broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com. Tomorrow night's rematch against Utah will not be available on a pay-per-view basis on the internet, but B2 Networks will broadcast all three games of the Idaho series as well as Alaska's home games against Last Vegas and Utah later this month.
