Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings calendar begins to heat up this weekend when they play three games in three consecutive nights. Victoria's first test was against the Dayton Bombers, a game the Bombers won 2-1.
The Bombers and the Salmon Kings went into Friday's game with identical two and three records, and played through the first period without incident, skating to the intermission knotted at nothing.
The Bombers opened the scoring mid-way through the second with two unanswered goals, first by former San Diego Gulls forward Brian Gornick, who recorded his team leading sixth of the season, followed by a powerplay marker from Scott Cameron, his fourth goal of the season at 15:27.
The Salmon Kings were finally able to net their only goal of the game on the powerplay late in the second frame, when Seth Leonard scored his first goal of the season from Mike Wirll and Kurt Drummond. Wirll's assist on the play is his third of the season and it moves him into a two-way tie for the Salmon Kings points lead with Steve Lingren, at six.
The Salmon Kings were out-shot by Dayton 38-21, and converted one of their six chances with the man advantage while stopping five of six Dayton power-plays. Salmon Kings Goaltender Rob Muntain records his second loss of the season while Michael Ayers backstops his team to victory for the third time.
Victoria's road trip continues in Toledo, OH tomorrow night, when they face the North Division leading Storm. The Salmon Kings will then travel to the Wheeling Nailers for a game Sunday afternoon. Victoria will then come home to begin preparations for their home opener on Thursday November 10th against the Stockton Thunder.
