Idaho Steelheads News Release

Five skaters notched multiple points, as the Steelheads (6-0-0) scored four unanswered tallies, to win 6-3 over the Roadrunners (3-3-0) in Phoenix on Thursday night.

The first period saw five goals between the two clubs, as the Roadrunners broke the ice quickly. At 1:40 of the first stanza, winger Jason Deskins picked up his third of the year with blue-liner Taylor Christie and winger Adam Kostitchka gathering the assists. It was the quickest goal scored by a Steelheads' opponent to start a game this season. Then at 3:58 of the frame, Mike Ouellet made it 2-0 in favor of the home team, as B.J. Gaustad got the only assist.

The Steelheads were able to even the score, striking twice in a span of 33 seconds. Forward Marty Flichel blasted home a power play goal at 10:49 of the period to get the Steelheads on the board. Defenseman Jarad Bourassa and winger Scott Burt got the helpers. Rookie center Brad Thompson added his second of the season at 11:22, to tie the match at two. Thompson picked up a rebound just outside the Roadrunners' crease, off forward Matt Reid's initial shot.

Phoenix would tally again before intermission, as Ouellet notched a man advantage tally with just 2:02 remaining in the period. The ECHL's leading scorer, Cory Pecker, and Deskins setup the goal that gave the home team its second lead of the night.

The Steelheads second period rally began on the power play, as Janos Vas finished off a nice passing play, to even the game at 3-3. McConvey and Burt were credited with the assists on Vas' second of the year, which came at 5:29. Under a minute later, the league's only undefeated team was at it again. McConvey banged home a loose puck in the crease at 6:20 of the second period, making the game 4-2. Burt got the primary assist, giving him nine on the season and three in the game. It is the second time this year Burt has notched a playmaker. Winger Garett Bembridge got the other helper on McConvey's fourth of the season.

Reid gave the visitors a two-goal cushion at 13:05 of the frame, picking up his first of the year. Winger Justin Cox and Vas were credited with the assists.

The Steelheads have now out-scored their opposition 16-5 in the second period this season.

Forward Mike Stutzel netted a power play goal, the team's third of the game, at 7:57 of the third period to essentially put the game out of reach. Bembridge and McConvey assisted on Stutzel's fourth of the year.

Goaltender Matt Yeats improved to 5-0-0 on the season, making 23 saves for the win. Mathieu Chouinard (3-1-0) took the loss for the Roadrunners, making 28 saves to suffer his first loss of the year.

The final shots were 34-26 in favor of the Steelheads. With the win, the Steelheads improved to 3-0-0 away from home and 3-0-0 when trailing at the first intermission. They play again on Friday night at Long Beach with an 8:30 p.m. MST faceoff.
