Augusta Lynx News Release

The Augusta Lynx will battle the Florida Everblades in the first of two games at Germain Arena tonight at 7:30 pm, marking the first time Lynx head coach Bob Ferguson will coach against his former team.

Florida has had a rough start to the season due to Hurricane Wilma, which delayed the start of their season by a week. The Everblades finally got to play the Las Vegas Wranglers to open the year last weekend, splitting a two game series to open 1-1-0. In that series, Florida was dealt a serious blow with the loss of forward Reggie Berg for up to three months with ligament damage in his right wrist. Berg scored 21 goals and 55 points in only 40 games for the Everblades last year.

The Lynx also have their share of injuries to overcome, with Jason Wolfe and Steve LeCuyer on the 7-Day IR, while Doug Wright was moved to the 30 Day list. Rookie goaltending tandem Trevor Cunning and Cam Ellsworth will once again take the Lynx through the weekend, with the duo combining to earn three out of four points on the road last week against Gwinnett and Pensacola.

Lynx forward Jamie Johnson is looking forward to getting things going in Florida.

"It's been a little bit of a slow start to the season for me," said Johnson. "So I'd really like to get things going early in this one and take off from there. Plus it's always huge to get the first goal in this building because of the fans."

Indeed, Germain Arena has one of the noisiest crowds going when the Everblades are playing well, but the Lynx will look to quiet those fans early and take them out of the equation. Plus the team would love to get four points for their coach.

Speaking at the Behind the Bench Coach's Show on Monday night from the Wild Wing Café, Ferguson spoke briefly about heading back to Florida.

"I would love to go down there and get all four points," he said. "I'm looking forward to going there, to seeing some familiar faces, but I'm also looking forward out the windshield, not behind me out the rearview mirror."

Emotions are sure to run high in this series, which all-time the Everblades lead 32-10-6. The Classic Stucco and Stone Pre-Game show kicks off one-half hour before faceoff on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
