Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (2-1-0) came from behind to tame the Augusta Lynx 3-2 on Friday night at Germain Arena.
The Everblades used second period goals by rookies John Ronan and Nick Vukovic to help erase a 1-0 deficit. After Jamie Johnson staked Augusta (3-2-1) to a 1-0 lead with a short-handed goal at 17:34 of the first period, Ronan wristed a shot past Lynx net-minder Trevor Cunning at 9:15 of the second period to tie the game. Vukovic followed that up with a power play goal at 13:30 of the frame with a shot from the left point to give the Everblades the lead for good.
Leading by one heading into the third period, the Everblades spent much of the first five minutes of the final period short-handed, but as the final Augusta man advantage expired, the Everblades increased their lead to 3-1 when newcomer Anders Strome banged home a rebound at 5:26.
Augusta battled back to cut the gap to one when Sam Ftorek beat Everblades goaltender Phil Osaer with 2:01 remaining in regulation. Despite a flurry of activity in the closing minute, the Lynx couldn't get the equalizer past Osaer as the 'Blades hung on to win their second straight game.
Osaer (1-1-0) earned his first win as an Everblade by stopping 36 of 38 shots. Cunning fell to 1-1-0 allowing three goals on 31 Everblades shots.
On the power-play, the Everblades finished 1-for-6 and the Lynx closed out the night 0-for-7.
Prior the game, the Everblades completed a trade with the Charlotte Checkers, bringing forward Phil Aucoin to the Everblades for financial considerations. The 24-year-old Chelmsford, Mass. native had picked up three points in four games with the Checkers this season. Last year, Aucoin notched 73 points (25g, 48a) in 58 games with the Memphis River Kings of the Central Hockey League. Prior to turning pro, Aucoin spent four seasons at the collegiate level with Norwich University where he tallied 136 points in 110 career games.
The Everblades host the Augusta Lynx on Saturday, November 5, at 7:30 p.m. from Germain Arena. Everblades 2005-06 full season, half season, group tickets, and individual game tickets are on sale now!
