Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings are proud to announce a partnership with the Victoria General Hospital Pediatric Ward. The Salmon Kings will visit the hospital on a monthly basis throughout the regular season, beginning Thursday November 17, 2005.
"It is important to the Victoria Salmon Kings staff and players to be as accessible as possible to all our fans. There are many children in the Capital Region that will not be able to attend a Salmon Kings hockey game this season because of various health conditions. In planning these visits we are bringing the game to the kids," said Adam Olsen, Communications and Community Relations Manager of the Victoria Salmon Kings.
"When we visited the hospital last season I soon realized the positive effect the children had on our players," said Olsen. "I thought it would be our players who were the stars but I believe it was the patients in the pediatric ward who left a greater impact."
Pediatric services at Victoria General Hospital are provided for children and youth from birth to age 17. A full range of programs and services are provided including but not limited to medical, surgical, oncology as well as pediatric day surgery, outpatient clinics, and pediatric and neonatal intensive care.
"The children and youth we serve often face significant health challenges, and being able to brighten their day can go a long way towards making them feel better," said Gerda Etherington, Clinical Nurse Leader at the VGH pediatric unit.
"I am excited with the partnership with the pediatric ward at Victoria General Hospital. Events such as these are essential and it is the goal of the Salmon Kings to continue to build a solid relationship with the community," said Dan Belisle, Vice-President of Hockey Operations of the Victoria Salmon Kings.
The Salmon Kings first home game is on Thursday November 10, 2005 against the Stockton Thunder. Season Tickets and specially designed ticket packages are available by calling 250-220-7888. Single game tickets are now on sale.
