Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release
LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs (3-4-0) followed up their stellar play from two nights ago by being the first to defeat the Idaho Steelheads (6-1-0) this season. After a tough start, the Ice Dogs have now won three in a row and are in sole possession of second place in the Pacific Division.
Idaho scored the first goal of the game at 14:51 of the first period by Jonathon Zion on the power play. It would prove to be their lone goal of the game. 2:11 into the second period, Mac Faulkner scored his first goal as an Ice Dog with assists to Chris Busby and Derick Martin to tie the score 1-1.
The game remained tied until Christian Larrivee scored his team leading fifth goal of the season and league leading third shorthanded goal with an assist to Chris Kenady. With Idaho's goaltender pulled for the extra attacker, Max Birbraer scored an empty net goal with less than one second to go to seal the game at 3-1.
Jaroslav Halak started in goal for Long Beach but was forced to leave early in the third period due to an injury after making 20 saves. Greg Hewitt came in to relieve him and stopped all four shots he faced while being credited with the win. Steve Silverthorn took the loss for the Steelheads, making 21 saves. Long Beach went 0-8 on the power play while Idaho went 1-7.
The Ice Dogs play again tomorrow night when they face the Pacific Division leading Fresno Falcons at 7pm. Season tickets for the 2005-06 season are still on sale, and can be secured by depositing just $100 per seat. Call (562) ICE-DOGS for visit www.icedogs.com for more information.
