Bostick, Neverauskas and Newman Selected to International League All-Star Team
June 27, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The International League today announced its 2018 All-Star Team for the 31st annual Huntington Bank Triple-A All-Star Game, presented by Gildan, and the Indianapolis Indians had three players named to the squad. Outfielder Christopher Bostick, right-handed reliever Dovydas Neverauskas and infielder Kevin Newman were all selected by the IL office.
The 2018 Triple-A Midsummer Classic will take place on Wednesday, July 11, at Huntington Park, home of the Columbus Clippers. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Triple-A Skills Competition and Home Run Derby is scheduled for Monday, July 9.
Bostick, 25, has found his home as Indianapolis' primary center fielder in 2018. A repeat selection to the IL All-Star Team, the former 44th-round pick of the Athletics in 2011 has hit .291 (76-for-261) with four home runs, three triples, 20 doubles, 28 RBI and six stolen bases in 67 games. He ranks among league leaders in doubles (T-4th), hits (6th) and triples (T-6th). The Rochester, N.Y. native hit a combined .318 (55-for-173) with 22 extra-base hits through the season's first two months. Bostick's selection to the IL All-Star Team is the third midseason All-Star nomination of his career; he was previously named to the 2017 IL squad and 2012 New York-Penn League midseason All-Star Game.
Neverauskas, 25, earned his second midseason All-Star honor; he participated in the 2016 Futures Game. The Lithuanian has been a steady performer in the later innings out of Indy's bullpen, posting a 1-2 record, two saves and a 1.78 ERA (5 ER/25.1 IP) in 19 appearances. He has surrendered just one home run with the Indians this season and three through 105.2 career innings with the Tribe. IL opponents have hit just .141 (12-for-85) with three extra-base hits and 34 strikeouts against him in 2018.
Newman, 24, is now a two-time midseason All-Star; he was a 2016 Florida State League midseason All-Star with High-A Bradenton. The middle infielder and Indy's catalyst atop the order has batted .305 (82-for-269) with one home run, 18 doubles, 18 RBI, 43 runs scored and 18 stolen bases. He leads the league in runs scored and stolen bases, is tied for second in hits and tied for 10th in doubles. Selected by the Pirates in the first round of the 2015 MLB June Amateur Draft, Newman ripped a robust 39 hits and batted .361 in the month of May alone.
The Huntington Bank Triple-A All-Star Game presented by Gildan will be broadcast live on MiLB.TV and the Triple-A All-Star Game Radio Network on July 11 and will be broadcast on MLB Network on July 18. The radio broadcast will be carried live on all 30 of the Triple-A flagship stations.
