From the Notes

ABOUT YESTERDAY: The Indians used a two-run homer by Jordan Luplow in the first and five-run third to run away with a 7-1 victory yesterday over the Hens. The Tribe doubled their lead to 4-0 on a Kevin Kramer double in the third. Wyatt Mathisen made it 5-0 with an RBI single before Erich Weiss cranked his fourth long ball of the year out to right-center. Tyler Eppler was masterful over 6.1 innings, allowing no runs on four hits with four punchouts. Max Moroff doubled, singled and scored two runs atop the order. Luplow (1-for-3, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 BB) was also on base in three of his five plate appearances. The Indians are now 8-4 vs. Toledo in 2018.

SERIES WIN IN TOLEDO: The Tribe victory yesterday sealed the series and set up a potential sweep this evening. The Indians hadn't won a series at Fifth Third Field since 2016, doing so twice (June 3-5, 2 of 3; Aug. 27-28, 2 of 2). Indy's last sweep of three games or more at Fifth Third Field came from April 15-17, 2013. The Indians won those games by 5-4, 4-2 and 2-0 margins.

HEY NOW, YOU'RE AN ALL-STAR: The IL released its elections and selections for the Triple-A All-Star Game this morning. No Indians were elected (fans/managers/media combined ballots), but three were selected to the team, including outfielder Christopher Bostick, middle infielder Kevin Newman and right-handed reliever Dovydas Neverauskas. The IL bid for Bostick was his second straight, but it came with unfortunate news as the 25-year-old underwent an appendectomy this morning and was placed on the 7-day DL as a result. Newman's selection was the second midseason All-Star honor of his career (Florida State League, 2016). Neverauskas participated in the 2016 Futures Game, marking the only other All-Star honors of his career.

ROSTER MOVEMENT: With OF Christopher Bostick being placed on the 7-day DL (appendectomy), INF/OF Eric Wood was reinstated from the 7-day DL (R pinky fracture) after playing a pair of minor league rehab games with Short-Season A West Virginia. He hasn't played with Indy since June 5 and is riding a five-game hitting streak with the Tribe going into tonight's game. RHP Tanner Anderson also had his contract selected by Pittsburgh today, his first call-up to the majors.

NOTHING NEW FOR NEWMAN: When batting leadoff and in his first at-bat of the game, Kevin Newman is batting .367 (22-for-60) with one home run, seven doubles and four walks this season for the Tribe. He has hit safely in 12 straight games thanks to another base hit Monday night, his fifth straight game with exactly one knock and ninth in his last 10 overall. His career-high hitting streak is 16, set from June 21-July 9, 2016 with Double-A Altoona. During his current stretch, he's hit .356 (17-for-50) to raise his average from .297 to .305, tied for the fifth-best mark in the IL. He is first in the IL with 43 runs scored and 18 stolen bases and tied for second in hits (82). He has been a better hitter when behind in the count this season, owning a .340 average (34-for-100) in those situations, compared to a .254 clip (17-for-67) when ahead in the count. He has struck out in just 10.5 percent of his plate appearances this season (31 K/294 PA), the second-lowest percentage in the IL.

EXTRA EFFORT: Kevin Kramer logged another double yesterday, driving home a pair of runs to give Indy a 4-0 lead. He now has 33 extra-base hits for the season, second most in the IL. He has 11 home runs, three triples and 19 doubles through 70 games. After batting just .238 (25-for-105) with 10 XBH (4 HR, 1 3B, 5 2B) in 28 May games, Kramer has heated up with a .321 average (27-for-84) and 18 XBH (6 HR, 2 3B, 10 2B) in 23 June contests. He is the only player in Minor League Baseball with 18 XBH since the calendar flipped to June. Minnesota's Eduardo Escobar (20), Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt (18) and Houston's Alex Bregman are the lone big leaguers with that many XBH in June.

HAVE A MONTH, KID: On top of his .321 average and 18 XBH this month, Kramer leads all International League qualifiers in June with 59 total bases and a .702 slugging percentage while his 1.072 OPS ranks second behind Columbus' Francisco Mejia (1.076). He is also second in RBI (21) and tied for second in home runs (6) this month, as well. He has hit safely in 16 of his 23 games this month, with a team-high 10 multi-hit performances during that span (Jordan Luplow is second with six multi-hit games in June).

LUPLOW ON FIRE: Jordan Luplow has hit safely in 18 of his last 21 overall. He is batting .421 (16-for-38) with two homers, five doubles, seven RBI, eight runs scored and 10 walks against just five strikeouts over his last 12 games. After hitting just .180 (11-for-61) with one double and one triple in 18 April games, Luplow has batted .311 (57-for-183) with 30 extra-base hits, 32 RBI and 26 runs scored in 51 games since May 1. His .961 OPS since May 1 is second in the IL behind Toledo's Ronny Rodriguez (.994) and 10th in Triple-A. All seven of his home runs with Indy have come on the road.

RYAN ROLLING: Indy catcher Ryan Lavarnway is riding a season-high 12-game hitting streak into tonight's game. He is batting .364 (16-for-44) during his streak with all four of his home runs coming since June 3. He has reached base safely in 17 straight and 23 of his last 24 games overall dating back to May 2.

ROAD WARRIORS: Five IL teams currently own road records at or above .500; Indy has the fifth-best road mark at 19-17. Rochester (22-16), Toledo (22-16), Durham (20-15) and Lehigh Valley (20-17) are all above .500 on the road. All four playoff spots -- as of today -- are occupied by Lehigh Valley (IL North leaders), Durham (IL South leaders), Toledo (IL West leaders) and Indianapolis (IL Wild Card leaders).

AMONG THE BEST: Indy's offense is in the top three of eight categories in the International League. They rank first in average (.275), hits (695), doubles (190), OBP (.339) and slugging (.425) and second in stolen bases (63), total bases (1061) and sacrifice bunts (24). Indy is on pace for 355 doubles as a team; the Victory Field era record for most doubles by a Tribe team is 299, set in both 1998 and 2000.

BY THE NUMBERS - 11-4: The Indians clubbed a pair of home runs in yesterday's win, their 15th game with multiple homers this season. Indy didn't hit multiple homers in a game until their 18th contest of the year on April 27 @ Columbus in a 17-5 win. The Tribe are 11-4 when hitting two or more home runs in a game this season.
