Clippers Get Best of Bats in Game Two
June 27, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release
The Columbus Clippers drew even with the Louisville Bats tonight in game two of their three-game series at Huntington Park.
Columbus used a four-run sixth inning to its advantage, eventually finishing off a 5-3 victory to set up a rubber-match tomorrow.
The Bats got to Clippers' starter Mitch Talbot early, with Mason Williams leading off the game with a double. Dilson Herrera score him with a single, which Steve Selsky followed with a RBI fielder's choice to provide Louisville with a 2-0 lead after the top of the first.
Selsky added another run in the fourth, roping a single to center off Talbot to grab a 3-0 advantage.
The Clippers waited until the sixth, when they took the lead, erupting for four runs. Greg Allen and Yandy Diaz started off with back-to-back RBI doubles, followed by a Brandon Barnes bunt single to tie the game at 3-3. Adam Rosales then lifted a sacrifice fly ball, scoring a tagging Francisco Mejia from third to claim a 4-3 lead.
Talbot settled in after surrendering three runs in his first four innings before being lifted in the seventh. In all, he went six and one-third, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits, while walking one and striking out four.
Barnes added to the Clippers' lead with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh. He spanked a two-out single into right off reliever Jimmy Herget, making it 5-3. Allen tried to score from second, but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.
Jeff Beliveau shut the Bats down in the ninth for the win.
The teams will face off for the final game of their three-game set tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Huntington Park.
