June 27, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - RHP Donny Roach and RHP Thyago Vieira have been named to the 2018 International League All-Star Team, as announced by the International League of Professional Baseball Clubs, Inc. earlier this morning.
Vieira, 24, was elected to the team, while Roach, 28, was selected to the club. The right-handed duo will represent the Charlotte Knights at the 2018 Triple-A Baseball All-Star Game, which will take place in Columbus, OH on Wednesday, July 11th at Huntington Park.
Roach, a native of Las Vegas, NV, is 8-2 with a 2.79 ERA in 15 games (14 starts) this season with the Charlotte Knights. The veteran right-hander is among the International League leaders in a number of categories. Currently, he is first in winning percentage (.800), tied for first in wins (8), second in innings pitched (87.0), and is sixth in ERA. His 14 starts this season are also tied for the second most in the league.
A member of the Chicago White Sox 40-man roster, Vieira has compiled a 0-2 record with four saves and a 4.26 ERA in 27 games out of Charlotte's bullpen this season. Vieira, a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, has racked up 43 strikeouts in 31.2 innings pitched this year. On June 22, the 24-year-old was promoted to the Chicago White Sox as the team's 26th man for their doubleheader against Oakland. Vieira, who did not pitch for the White Sox that day, was returned back to the Knights after the game.
The Knights will conclude their three-day, four-game series against the Durham Bulls from Durham, NC with a day/night doubleheader today. The first of two games is set for 1:05 p.m. and pre-game radio coverage will begin at 12:50 PM on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte. The two teams will play game two of the doubleheader starting at 7:05 p.m. with pre-game radio coverage set for 6:50 p.m. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action from Durham, NC.
