Charlotte Knights News Release

(DURHAM, NC) - The Charlotte Knights dropped the second game of their day/night doubleheader against the Durham Bulls by a score of 5-1 from Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Wednesday in Durham, NC. The Knights won the first game by a score of 5-1 and earned a split of the doubleheader. The two teams also split the four-game series, two games apiece.

RHP Spencer Adams (0-2, 4.43) started for the Knights and tossed seven innings in his third career Triple-A start. Adams allowed five runs on 10 hits and was saddled with the loss. He walked just one batter, struck-out four, and threw 100 pitches (67 for strikes).

The Bulls jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning against Adams, which was more than enough to take the game two matchup from the Knights. RHP Zach Lee (1-1, 3.46) started for the Bulls and earned the win after he gave up just one run on six hits over seven innings of work.

Offensively for the Knights, third baseman Patrick Leonard led the way against his former team with two hits. Left fielder Eloy Jiménez went 1-for-4, while second baseman Eddy Alvarez drove home the team's lone run in the third inning.

Earlier in the day, RHP Donny Roach threw eight impressive innings in game one of the doubleheader to lead the Knights to their 5-1 victory. Roach, a 2018 International League All-Star, improved to 9-2 with a 2.65 ERA on the season. Jiménez and Dustin Garneau homered in game one. The Knights are now 7-5 against the Bulls in 2018.

The Knights will now make the trek back to Uptown Charlotte to open a four-game series against the Gwinnett Stripers (Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves) on Thursday with a 7:05 p.m. game. Gates are set to open at 6:00 p.m. on Thirsty Thursday. All fans can enjoy $1 small sodas, while fans 21 and over can enjoy $3 domestic drafts and $5 craft drafts. Pre-game radio coverage is set for 6:50 p.m. from BB&T Ballpark. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action.
